Personally I just drop by and color stuff that I like and don't stay for the actual thread mostly because its a tight circle that is hard to get into, the circle is a bit too huggy for me as well so I try to avoid stuff like that.

As a forever journeyman in art, there's this concept of "Two cakes".

Meaning that sometimes you work alongside with some really awesome artists, guys who use like 200 layers for their casual work, when compared to you its like an ant to a titan. The ant sometimes looks at the cake of the titan and says "Oh wow, my cake means nothing next to the titans, I'd better not come with one."

The requester (most of the time) doesn't care about size or quality of your cake and says "Hot shit two cakes!".

Even if you feel that your work is unpresentable, keep on doing it if only to better yourself as an artist. Add it to your own portfolio and continue learning. The only way you get outfished is if you allow yourself to be outfished. :3

It really depends on the artist and what you are asking them to do. If you say "Draw a Picture of Sycther licking Blissey's Toes while smelling her egg" you might find an artist who does that picture with irony. Meaning that there is a ratio between request power levels and artist "shittery". If your powerlevel is extremely high, be prepared to be made fun of. This is a part of 4chan after all.

I'm a newfag when it comes to drawing, though I use a canvas with pastels, rather than a tablet. Even if our ways of drawing differ, I would still highly suggest you use references, rather than trying to freehand stuff.

I would start with something easy to draw, like an Electrode. Tracing something and then practicing with your coloring and shading can give you a good feel for making your art pop out to the viewer, especially if you haven't had experience with creating basic shapes to start from.

This was one of my very first drawings about two months ago. You can probably tell with the unpolished details, but I traced the head from Meowstic's official artwork and slowly worked from there. It's terrible, but I've since gotten better with coloring and not needing to use lines to emphasize sharp points in the piece.

Believe me when I say that drawing is NOT an easy thing to get into, especially if you're like me and haven't started doing it at a young age.

i keep hearing this but have never seen a screencap, edited image in his possession, or even the slightest bit of evidence for it. the rest of your opinion seems very well thought out but some of the pieces scattered within just feel like 'someone said it so it must be true'. i also remember at one point he did have an imgur album of the entire rukiadex sorted and labeled until imgur 'killed it' in his words, i can see why that would be discouraging to upload that many images and sort them again on such faulty software. is there even a better/more stable site for this sort of thing or do we have to hold out hope of him opening up a tumblr for it?

Now let's compare that with the number of requests non Rukia related fulfilled in that same thread. If I ddn't miscount it goes up to 12(+2 NSFW).
5/17=30%, so yeah, a 30% of that particular thread was Rukia related. Link me another thread an I'll do the same calculations, but you can objectively see that Swordbro there is hoarding most of the artist attention to himself. And that's data, not opinion.

I believe that needs to slow down, be it because him moderating his ambition or artists ignoring him more. It'd be healthier for these threads.

don't think you're alone feeling like that, when I drew this I felt I was putting myself there as the ANON passing a drawing to the guy say "I was hoping RF would draw it". I think we are all a bit insecure about our own art.
It feels like a bummer when people would list off their favorite artist, or the the artist they miss the most, and never mention you because you're anonymous, but that's the nature of the beast. We have our own reasons to stay anon and that's ok, we have to stand out not with a catchy trip name but by the quality of our art.
sometimes someone beats us to the same request, But don't NOT deliver, it happens. post it anyway and say "shucks someone beat me to it!" sharing a drawing is just as important for you as it is for the person getting it.

Deliveries must be met with offerings of money, blood, and animal sacrifice as well as a grammatically correct 1-2 paragraph thank you explaining every detail of the drawing and how it is of the utmost quality.
