Because it was spaced out better and properly offered new formats of playing and experiencing the game. Granted, we know nothing of usum, but let's be honest, Battle Royale wasn't exactly great, and I can't imagine they'll come up with anything like Emerald's Battle Tower. It's overstayed its welcome at this point. Gen 7 was fresh with regard to plot/story-telling and that's it. Even then, it was the best story ever for a pokemon game, but that's it... For a pokemon game. There's nothing left now. It's slowly deteriorating like the Sonic franchise with regard to redundancy, but at least that has Sonic Mania going for it right now. Perhaps saying pokemon is dead now is an exaggeration. Gen 8 will be its death when it offers nothing. It's only hope is some brand new, fresh ideas on Switch with better interaction and online capabilities. It's so lifeless now otherwise.
