Could be an excellent idea to give everything a new paint of coat. Instead of doing the gyms thing you move from town to town to face the invading army (ex instead of gym leaders there are generals). The generational minigame could be a pokemon based medieval tournament, in which pokemons fight 1 on 1 but it isn't based on normal fighting stats (like contests)
