I'd rather have GSC now than have to wait years for an official release.
You can also play Gen 3 games on 3DS if it's hacked, though unfortunately you can't trade or battle with others.

As for the leaks, sure why not?, nintendo is planing on giving old games with it's online subscription, so getting the original pokemon games on VC for the switch seems like something they would totally do.
