It's not exactly that GameFreak themselves are obsessed, they just know from Gen 6 Sales that Gen 1 Pandering is the way to go, especially when comparing the abysmal sales of Gen 5 which, coincidentally, didn't have any Pandering.

Even if gen 5 has the lowest selling games, its not by much, and a lot of that has to with it being on the same hardware as gen 4, with little graphical updates. As for gen 1, the remakes were the lowest selling remakes yet.
