You have 10
seconds to post a scan of your favorite Pokemon card.
Most of the early CG sucked, but I always had a soft spot for this one (and Vending Weezing, too). Shame these never saw an English release.

Maybe not my absolute favourite, but it's what I thought of in 10 secs. I feel like a lot of people don't like these "claymation" cards, but it totally works with this
I didn't think much of the gothi line until I saw this art. I love it. It may fit Gothitelle's powers better but still.

I know some of them were CGI but I also thought they used figurines at that point already
Poor thing.
I remember being a kid at some flea market where some dude was selling pokemon singles, including this one. I thought the art was so cool but it was probably super overpriced, since my mom wouldn't buy it for me.
I ended up buying a copy a few years back on Ebay.
how come none of the newer cards look as badass as this?
there's just nothing as aesthetically pleasing as the old cards

Nostalgia ?

nah I think it's something to do with the way wizards made cards. The holo rares just felt special in a way none of the new cards do

I really really loved Yuka Morii's work
>>32662251
You can usually tell. If it's by Kenji Kinebuchi, it's CG.

Mix of both, I think. Newer cards don't look great when Sugimori art is used, but there was something awesome about the old holos. I think partly because of the way they were printed made them thicker, like you really were getting something special. The old patterns (star and galaxy) both looked nicer than today's.

I collect Yuka Morri cards. They're so whimsical
Favorite illustrator(s)?
One of mine is Tomokazu Komiya. Use of shadows and colors is great -- even when the Pokemon can be distorted.

Really it's three cards, but out of them Emboar is the best.

Art-wise I dissagree. While Sugimori's art is good by itself, the original official designs were used as reference and the mons were therefore just posing there doing nothing. I find early cards that just slap said designs to be bland and boring.
What I like from the cards' art is that they can be art. They can show the pokemon in their element, doing stuff, displaying personalities, even sometime tell stories (pic related), in ways that the games and anime and manga can't.
It's why I think tcg art has only gotten better with time, as more artist come in and contribute their own styles and visions.
Definitely the card I had the most fun with. There were so many ways you could build a deck around him, many of which were competitive throughout its lifespan.
its fucking beautiful
shit. but beatiful

I remembered this card from my childhood and never could find the copy i had of it. I still remember pulling it out of the pack. I ended up ordering a foil one and a regular one online though

Both of my favorite cards (art wise) were already posted so I'm just gonna post this. I fucking loved using the Entei/Charizard-EX deck in the Phantom Forces/Steam Siege era. Haven't really found a deck as fun as this one ever since.
God I love early TCG art. I don't think that I could ever choose just one. But this Houndoom is incredible, especially the holo version, but I couldn't find a quality scan of the holo.

Shinji Higuchi is a bro!

I agree with you.

>Favorite illustrator(s)?
Tokiya, Kagayoo and Kimiya Masago.
got this put on my new phone case that's coming in the mail soon, one of my top favourites
I dunno why I like this one so much, I normally don't really like Camerupt, but something about his smug smile in this one is really cool to me

Meh. Get on my level.
