Worth the suspension of disbelief.
I'm glad we are finally getting merch for the final stages of the Alola Starters and the Popplio fluffy plush looks super cute too. Also really curious about those prototype figurines.

I actually love you so much, Popplio!
You're the best starter pokemon, and those who say not should be killed. My life is better because you exist!

HA for Popplio when?
>>32661269
No idea. Will Primarina be good in Doubles with it?
>>32661284
God, I can't wait for the next Mystery Dungeon. I can have confidence that it'll actually be good.
Just something I've been curious about since that Alola starter thread, what are your thoughts on Primarina's design? Favorite part, anything you'd change, etc. just anything really.
I honestly like every part of its design. It's just how I feel, so I don't mind if other people disagree or something. I don't think it has a "flawless" design, but it is one I really like regardless. Probably the only change I'd want is making its neck and upper arms thicker.
The stars and spikes seem to get the most criticisms, and I definitely agree that the stars make no sense, but is it wrong if I really like them? I love the pink accents and how the sharp edges contrast with the other soft, rounded shapes in its design. I just wish there was a way to make them seem more natural, or just Gamefreak actually giving an explanation for them. The thing about Primarina having "too much details" is something that genuinely confuses me, but I guess that's because of different perspectives, or I'm just missing something; I always thought the design felt weirdly simple in certain aspects, compared to other newer starters(except Delphox). Sometimes I wish Primarina's design had even more frills and bubble pearls, though I guess that'd put off more people. (Not saying any of the criticisms are wrong btw, just talking about my initial thoughts on them)

Not a Primarina picker, but this is legit enough I figure as a not-seal chooser I'd weigh in. I'm absolutely not intending to insult the seal fanbase itself nor insult the seal (or any other starter) for the record saying my bit here.
All the starters have GOOD overall designs despite what false-flaggers will tell you, which makes the bad bits they do have stand out more. To me Primarina's issue is too many accessories and extra bits - the star headphones and spikes, for example. That pic from the other thread where they took out the stars/spikes really streamlined it in a good way, IMO.
Proportions-wise every starter has an issue this gen, but at the same time, who gives a shit, it's Pokemon? Incineroar's are either thin wrists/sausage-fingers, Primarina's got the stupid-thin neck and upper arms, Decidueye has weird flat fingers that magically end in weird flat fingernails. But by now the proportions whining is a meme: actual tigers are buff/bulky (which /vp/ doesn't like to think about) and get huge hands/fingers, actual sea lions have huge flippers and long snouts (which /vp/ doesn't like to think about), some owls have obvious fingers and feather bulges like a hood (which /vp/ would flip out learning about). Game Freak just exaggerated these for pokemon and so many /vp/ posters have lost their sense of imagination they'll settle for nothing less than my mom's X at this point. I just tune out proportions-talk by now.
Basically I think people are just worried that starters are becoming too human in ACTIONS if not design. But I can see Primarina swimming through the deep sea, Incineroar running on all fours, Decidueye flying through a forest just fine and they're all still animals at heart still evoking what you'd imagine a gracefully-swimming sea lion, ferocious tiger, and collected owl to be.

I'm not an expert at all when it comes to Pokémon designs. I do believe, however, that people often call "flaws" certain elements in Primarina's design without even trying to consider how they can appeal to others.
I really fucking love how the starfish form an headset around Primarina's head, for example. I thought they were pretty the moment I saw them, I thought they were pretty and interesting when I learned about it.
I have also seen other people saying the spikes are their favorite part about Primarina's design. I do like them and I think they complement everything else pretty well, but they are definitely one of the most forgettable part about the design for me.
But that's one of the things that I like about Primarina. Every single element about it is so explorable and interesting. Most of the stuff I see people criticize about it, are things I really like.
To me it just strikes the perfect balance as it is, and when I see any of these elements removed, it breaks this balance.
So yeah, I know I'm gonna sound like a total fanboy, but I can't thing of anything I would change or remove.
>>32661284
YOU MEAN THEY STILL HAVEN'T RELEASED IT YET?
WHY
I honestly love the stars on Primarina. Spikes are meh but they don't bother me. I love the ruffles and the pearls too. Its a mermaid. It needs to be girly and over the top. Reminds me of a magical girl too. Its the exact kind of over the top frilly thing that little girls fucking love.
>>32661903
There's nothing I'd personally change, I love every part of the design. The spikes are definitely my favourite element, there's a lot residing in them alone such as how they help build upon the inherent abilities of a sea lion in a charming fantasy style. Also the line's fat noses, I love my goofy shit.
While I can agree that Primarina fails in terms of having a universal appeal, it is one of the most achieving designs for satisfying fans of it and allowing exploration to the many different design elements. It's busy for a reason, and Dewgong already perfected the other side of the spectrum with sheer simplicity. It's polarizing but incredibly rewarding to those that fall for it, and that's perfectly fine.
>>32662190
Actually to expand, she reminded me a little but of Creamy Mami the first time I saw her.
I wonder if the Japs feel differently about all of the starters being kind of competitively disappointing this generation. Primarina is doing great on Battle Spot and, as far as I'm aware, they don't really play Showdown or 6v6s there.
It just placed higher in usage than Mega Metagross and Mega Lucario this week, which is pretty great.
Found this picture on an article about it, love that smug.
>>32662190
Agreed. I don't really prefer feminine mons anymore, but Primarina made me feel like a little girl again and I loved it and its inspirations. Thought I'd get bored of the line but they eventually became some of my favorite mons.
>>32662432
Nice. I saw that article too
>>32662449
I didn't catch the "Destroy" there. That's pretty great.
>>32662453
The Primarina comic will be coming out in two weeks I think. Can anyone translate these by the way?
>>32662453
Decidueye was this week, so Incineroar should be next and Primarina in (less than) 2 weeks right?
>>32662466
Yeah, Incineroar will probably come on the 6th, and Primarina on the 13th.
I also tried to find a comic for Spheal but found some digital picture book instead. The images were kinda low quality though so I resized one.

I find it funny how people always shit on starterfags for making too many threads about their favourites or for starting wars in general, sometimes to the point of hating the starters and feeling proud of saying they boxed them, when judging from the dedicated threads it seems pretty obvious that there are 4-5 really dedicated fans left for each fanbase AT BEST, right now.

Hello from tiger thread.
>>32665078
This. I'm sorry falseflagging got this hard and drove most out. At least Poppilo and Litten's lines still have fan threads.
recently started a new sun play through. I soft resent to get a female popolio. So glad it only took me like 4 resets to get the gender i wanted. I named her mercury. Because i couldn't find a good mermaid name and i was like "Well that litten i breed and put in bank for this play through is named mars and sailor mars uses fire and sailor mercury uses water so mercury it is.
I also picked up a pichu and named it Saturn. I don't know if i'll name all my pokemon after planets but it would be better than some of the names I've given my pokemon in the past.

I really like the figurines reveled so far, but I kind of hope we get a Primarina standing up too at some point
>>32668937
It seems like it'd be difficult to keep balance unless if it had a stand. But yeah I'd want one too, or at least high-quality official art of it. I wonder if that leaked concept art will ever be officially revealed.
>>32668977
To be fair that one is already close enough, yeah. I was mainly hoping for at least one piece of merch where Primarina has its hair loose and the one you posted looks great.
Having one for Oceanic Operetta and one for Sparkling Aria would be the best, though.
>>32668184
Look great
