Is there a character who is more hated than Pidgeotto? And I am not talking about Pidgeotto snatching up Magikarps. Hell, I'm not even talking about Pidgeotto snatching up Magikarps while cosplaying as Landorus and constantly emitting DELELELELELELELELE WHOOP sounds. I’m also not talking about Ash-Pidgeotto snatching up level 19 Magikarps while cosplaying as a hybrid of Keldeo, Garbodor and Landorus while making the most annoying sound in the world. I am talking about Gary-Pidgeotto snatching up Shiny level 19 Magikarps with sausage fingers while cosplaying as an unholy hybrid of Keldeo, Garbodor, Landorus, Bidoof and your favorite pokemon while shit-talking your favorite pokemons and constantly telling you that it has had sexual relationships with your mother (as well as sister and daughter if you have any) while it has +6 Evasion.

Pidgeotto are birds, and they're fast. They control the skies. If you're going to fight them, you need something that can take them on. Electric-types would make good defense, as they can strike the birds when they come in their attack range, but they can't pursue. And the Pidgeotto know this. They'll take advantage of this. They'll wait for the right moment to strike.

You can do nothing. Give up. Pidgeotto are too strong. Flying gives them access to a third dimension, so catching is impossible for Water and Land dwellers.

And that's where alliances, a big part of any war, come in. You might not be aware of this, but Magikarp has been planning. There's a reason everyone bought a Charcoal and a Charizard. They have know of their shortcomings, so they made allies to help them overcome that.
Now, you might be thinking why would a Zard fight Pidgeotto for Magikarp. Their agreement was that Zard will give items in return for a place and Charcoal, not to fight. And why Zard specifically, when there's many better choices?

But that's where Magikarp uses its other tools, its Egg Group and once it evolves, its moves. In addition to Charcoal, once the Karp evolves, it can offer the Zard an egg with Dragon Dance, something many Zard crave. They offer their body and their firstborn in return for help taking down evil.
The war is on, and there will be blood. Pidgeotto blood. They control it all. The land, the sea and the sky, the Pidgeotto shall now all die.
