Unless some meme magic happens at E3, I highly doubt we'll be seeing a third version of SM, let alone on the Switch. GF has never jumped console mid gen. The evidence people keep using towards a third game, such as Marshadow in the next movie or the latest TCG release, was the same type of evidence used by Zfags for a Zygarde game. Plus, its a bit too late to announce another Pokemon game, and there's absolutely no way a third version for the 3DS will be announced next year considering all the Switch units being sold like hotcakes.

Don't we need a new game for vgc 18? I mean there are some pokemon in the national dex that are unobtainable within the gen 7 games.

Do you not know how game development works? SM was in development since XYs release. Three years to be exact. These developers get their new console dev kits well in advance. Whos to say they didnt start working on Gen 8 for the Switch last year; making 2018 the perfect time to release it since the Switch has been sold enough. GF has multiple teams working on projects, anon. Developers bring in new people all the time in the middle of development

Those still aren't 3 years and if they started when they released SM then that would mean that in early 2019 we will getting gen 8

Yeah and it usually for pokemon goes ''team A developing new gen game'' and ''Team B developing remake'' like we've seen so far.

And usually those new people goes into training for at least 6 months before they can start working properly with the rest of the team.

Also there's been like 2 interviews where they said that they will see how the switch will do before they work on a game for the system, and while they may already been working on a new game for the switch, i HIGHLY doubt it's gonna be gen 8

They used to, but the split teams for Pokemon aren't a thing anymore. ORAS in particular was like a side project as the same team worked on SM.

Either way, most logical future is 2018 for Gen VIII, with all the details we have.
