This is exactly the reason that Kanto Pokemon get a disproportionate amount of attention. Gamefreak doesn't shill kanto all the time for nostalgia pandering, but to make sure they have a core group of monsters that will be universally recognized by every type of player. The original 151 are the only ones that Gamefreak expects every Pokemon fan to recognize, so they have to keep promoting them to make sure younger fans can come to know them. The free Kanto starter at the beginning of XY is a great example of that.

Honestly I think the most cucked is Squirtle, Venusaur got Leaf Green box cover, Charizard got Fire Red box cover, the box cover is probably why I picked Bulbasaur in the first place.

The first gen starters are lucky, all three of them are great in their final form, although I find Charizard the least creative of the three

I shop at Build a Bear frequently. Last month I was emailed a survey asking me some basic questions and then I was asked to write in any 5 Pokemon I'd be interested in seeing for sale at BaB.

So it seems they're reaching out to customers for suggestions or ideas on just how casual/interested we are in Pokemon. At the very least, it seems they're interested in continuing to produce them. They're still making My Little Pony characters to the point that they've done some side characters and characters that weren't even very big in the show. Pokemon may be headed that way, especially given how quickly they sell out.
