She's a great character. Everyone in the manga is pretty much what I wanted out of the anime. It's not too dark, it's not too light, they swap protagonists out every arc similarly to the game to keep it fresh.

Sometimes you get a competent protag, sometimes you don't.

Games up until B2W2 have extremely little evidence for any pairing and Gamefreak doesn't mention them at all. It's fair to assume for them that nothing really happens and you can just flip a coin for who should fuck who. B2W2 onward is when Gamefreak actually throws some bones to people and gives you confirmation that something is happening.

Nate/Rosa x Yancy/Curtis in B2W2, Calem and Shauna in XY (she has a crush on you, explicitly stated by Gamefreak), Brenden/May in ORAS (actually have a date at the end, every other pairing in that game with the MC becomes irrelevant), and main character x Lillie (hinted, not completely explicit). Anything else is coin-flipping.

The manga is a completely different story, and like the anime, is losely based on the games, so it can't be used as evidence outside its own universe.

No. They tried going for this in FRLG, that's why there was literal bait in FRLG arc (Vol 23-24) with Red doing everything he can for, and then he failed. And she tried to cheer him up, etc.

They also did stuff like blatantly say that she started nicknaming pokemon after meeting a dexholder in a flashback, and back then it was only red and yellow who nicknamed pokemon.

But you know, fans had their dicks out for Yellow since she's pure, innocent, a reverse-trap, a loli, etc.

I think it's because she was is too smug and not likeable on the beginning. Green is awesome and has a lot character development, but when Yellow appeared, most readers shipped her with Red because she was the opposite of green. Well Green is much more than pairing bailt though. I'd rather Green to stay single.

Red in the manga, the original arc had like a harem thing. Classic shonen stuff.

It's implied offscreen that his friendship with Blue strengthened since he didn't trust her at all cause they had a Batman and Catwoman thing going on.

Then in GSC, it's basically concrete that they're really close friends.

Then in FRLG, it sheds light from Blue's perspective of how much she's changed because of her friends and it's heavily implied that Red is the one who helped her change into a better person as she started to nickname her Pokemon. (Green doesn't nickname his Pokemon, Yellow doesn't get her Pokedex until the end of FRLG)

Also in FRLG, Red and Green both try to get stronger to avenge Blue as she's traumatized into a very very short coma when she witnesses losing her parents, and when Red kinda falters, she's the one to try and cheer him up even though she's injured + still dealing with that emotional trauma of losing her parents to Deoxys.

In ORAS, the two still hang out and Red specifically calls for her assistance since his BFF Green is in Kalos (XY arc?).

So they're like really good friends. Unsure if you want to take it as romantic, it's more natural than seeing Yellow being all flutter blushy and all the fan-art that comes associated with that where they portray him as a dumbass even though the manga directly shows that he's not that clueless as like for example, Ash.

Manga hints heavily that he's had an affection for Blue (because she's cute), and he's had a crush on Misty and trusts her a lot for advice and other things as she's the one who helped take the Team Rocket threat seriously since he didn't really give a fuck before. But he avoided all that romance shit at the end of GSC since it was on the spot, and there was like 4-5 other people around eavesdropping.
