We've discussed this ad nauseum.

- The hair is fucking awful
- It's a complete and pointless asspull. Came out of nowhere, had no basis in the games, was never properly explained, and didn't amount to anything. He could have not had the form and nothing would change, he'd lose to Charizard all the same.
- It undermined everything about Ash by giving him a special snowflake power. By extension it also made his loss even more pathetic, especially given the hero's journey structure leading up to it.
- All of its battles had garbage writing. No interesting strategy, just "GRENINJA, BEAT THIS ATTACK FOR SOME REASON, NOW PULL A NEW POWER OUT OF YOUR ASS." Only one resembling strategy were the Ice Shard skates, which were recycled from DP.
- Its game implementation could not be any lazier. No new mechanic, not even a synch with your trainer, just a dumb looking Ash form for everyone, and more excessive special treatment over other starters. It works absolutely nothing like in the show, which again begs the question of why it exists in the first place.

I only watched half or less of the second season but why does Greninja get a Mega equivalent form that can fight real Mega egos without the special magic crystal crap? It would've been a little more cool if Ash got a Greninja stone and then the two became so in sync with each other through spamming mega evo battles that Greninja finally developed the special snowflake ash colors. From what I've seen so far it's like literally every other trainer needs a crystal for their Pokemon along with the Yokai watch ring except Ash

There's no debating that its good competitively. But its design is objectively SHIT. Gross black hair growing out of its eyes, stupid red mohawk looking thing, giant water shiruiken for no reason, is connected to one of the worst pokemon trainers in history and just overall looks like some "original character" recolor you'd find in the bowels of deviantart.

And those are all just the reasons I (as well as everybody else on /vp/) hate its design alone. The REASON it exists is even more infuriating to me.

Yes, but at least Blastoise and Venusaur got the same mega treatment Charizard did, Zard just got two of them. And if we're looking at them from a competitive perspective, it makes sense to give Charizard 2 forms since Charizard has the biggest physical movepool of the two but his stats up to that point never really let you USE that huge physical movepool since his best stat up till then was his special attack, and Charizard didn't have NEARLY as many special moves as he did physical ones. The megas fixed that problem: X capitalizes on its vast physical moves and Y lets it use its limited yet powerful special moves to its fullest degree.

Greninja didn't have this problem as it has both a large physical and special movepool and the stats to back it up. As if that weren't enough, GF shilled the fuck out of Greninja to the point the other two starters feel like a complete afterthought.

With that, I ask you: Did Greninja NEED a snowflake super form?
