Gen 1 hating is a really bad meme around here. The games are very newfag-unfriendly, but compact, hilariously broken and can be played in many different ways without devoting ridiculous amount of time like in later games.
2 and 6 are the shit gens. 2 because it's 1 except worse in every way, 6 for reasons this board has gone through on many occasions.
3 and 7 are okay. 4 and 5 were clearly the two best ones.

1 (too barebones) < 6 (like the gen itself, but they didn't make a good game with it) < 2 (oh god the level scaling) < 5 (good gen, but somehow never got that much into them < 7 (love gen 7 a lot, but so far just the two games) 4 (played only platinum und SS, among the best games < 3 emerald is my favoite game in the series, but I hope that changes with the next gen 7 game cause it's by no means perfect
