Because making everything slow isn't a solution for powercreep, since it will make the faster mons that already exist even better. Plus Gen7 has one of the worst powercreep since years because of the Tapus and Pheromosa.
This only highlights how bad the Alola mons are, even when compared with only gen7 mons

I think game freak just wanted to slow things down after the monstrous power creep that was gen 6. I'd prefer gen 7 this way than another gen 6, wouldn't you? I guess it's just a preference thing too, I really only play RU and NU anyway so it doesn't bother me much.

Incineroar actually has decent 95/90/90 bulk, and Turtonator's 60/135/85 isn't that bad either, just low hp which is something Toxapex and Wishiwashi have. Not to mention there are mons like Bewear, who is bulky on the physical side, and Primarina, who is bulky on the special side.

When you think of "bulky", these don't come to mind, most of the <70 are either hindered by shit typing, low defensive stat on one or 2 sides, or both.
Decidueye and Tsareena get a honorable mention for only being 70-72.

A Trick Room extender alone would be balanced enough. As every TR setter that lacks Aroma Veil,Oblivious, and Magic Bounce would miss their Mental Herbs(here comes the rise of Mold Breaker Taunters). An auto TR ability should be exclusive to a mascot legendary as it will be meta-centralizing.

While the Alola examples I used weren't that good, having one low defense stat doesn't necessarily make a pokemon frail. Skarmory has low hp/spdef but is still a good physical wall. Chansey and Clefable have low defense, and Tangrowth is a grass type with low Sp. Def, but these are still considered bulky for their other capabilities.

I agree typing does hinder some of the mons though, and I think a big problem is that the mons with decent bulky stats also lack reliable recovery. Hopefully gamefreak will throw them a bone in later games.

What makes Tsareena look fast? It looks like it'd have trouble moving around with those pointy legs and big, clunky "skirt". And to be fair, Decidueye's an archer, which tend to focus more on accuracy and precision.

Take this with a grain of salt, but I also find it interesting how in the unused walking/running animations, Rowlet and Dartrix use their wings, while Decidueye uses its legs, which I think would be more difficult to run on. https://youtu.be/8XA0ClmKH4A?t=10
