I think I figured out how hoarding level up balls works, if anyone wants to help test that'd be great

Saving balls to open with a +coins karp WILL boost what you get

There is a max of 20, HOWEVER it works in a weird way:
If you have more than 20 at any time, it sees that it has to remove X balls to get back to 20. Even if you open enough to get below 20, the next time you leave the pond and return it will remove X balls. So if you have 24, open 5, and refresh, you'll only have 15 left.

You should do this. You get bonus coins from losing a match, plus a lot of events are only after losing at the league. Waiting 90 minutes is not a big deal in this game when you already have to wait longer than that to get enough JP to beat the whole league.
