I don't know which 'mons in particular the extra Reckless damage helps against but I'd recommend trying it if you're using a Choice item instead of Life Orb. Otherwise, I'd say stick with Regenerator.

While that's a good justification for why it takes so long for Mienfoo to evolve, it's still a pain the neck gameplay wise.

Exactly. You know, maybe it's just me, but I feel like Gen 5 added lots of Pokemon that take an unnecessarily long time to evolve. Mienfoo's one example, but we've also got Rufflet and Vullaby, which don't evolve until level 54; Larvesta, which doesn't evolve until level 59; and Deino, which takes until level 50 to evolve into Zweilous, and then 64 to evolve into Hydreigon--which is the record for the highest level any Pokemon needs to be at to evolve.

I still like Gen 5, but that part of it is annoying. Makes it hard to use those kinds of Pokemon on ingame teams, because they don't reach their final forms until the very end of the game.

Not really that much, my mienfoo was my ace while playing Omega ruby, not even bird type were a problem since i got very early rock throw, and most psychic types lost at least half their HP after using U-turn, the only problem was that sometimes he was slower than the other pokemon and i had to switch.

I would love Mienfoo to be playable as a goofy cartoony fighter. A character that is clearly trying its hardest and pushing itself too hard to live up to its evolution (not saying it wouldn't be a good playable character).
Same reason I would love Meditite, Timburr or Tyroge over their evolution, to give more variety and some comic relief. Mienfoo may be the best one because it looks so serious yet so funny.
