That is really easy to explain. Chubby and Muscle gut can look pretty good but it needs very specific proportions to pull it right. I think Charizard hits that sweet spot. On a personal level, I think that the Pokken Charizard is just perfect.

No, they don't. You make one. By being strong enough to win and defend it. Both of which Ash is incapable of. And the league was created with Kukui's help, who had already experienced a League firsthand and knew how it worked. He had shown interest in it since the very beginning of the game.

Now, Kukui is a fucking teacher. He has shown absolutely zero interest in Leagues, and no real past with Leagues. On top of that, one of the Elite 4's, Acerola, is likely not going to appear, the same way Ilima didn't, being just a Trail Captain. If she was going to appear, she would be in the school with everyone, as she is also the same age as them, so that's one hint towards that.
Another Elite 4, Hala, has already got his shit handed to him by Ash with only two NFE Pokemon. He isn't going to make a great challenge, even if he has a hidden team, which he doesn't. The proof of that is that he was shown training with only his Crabrawler and Hariyama, and Kukui mentioned Hala was going all out against Ash. Consider he hasn't shown any hint of having another team, and his current team is the only one shown, you have absolutely zero reason to believe has another team, and a couple reasons to believe he doesn't.

Lastly, the League has been mentioned in every season in the very beginning. That's what Ash aims towards, every time. This time, there's been zero focus on being the "very best". That hasn't even come up. And you have zero reason to believe it will.

Almost all dragons have horns and they're all useless. No dragon is ever going to need them. They're just there, part of the design.

In fact, Zard's horns are actually have a point. Zard's neck is more simpler. It's not as spike filled as a normal dragon's. This, however, brings the weight and focus of the neck and head on a single side. Which might look a bit jarring to some, especially if seen from the back. So it is given horns that jut out a bit to the other side. They're not too big, to not steal the focus from the face too much, but they bring something to the otherwise featureless head of Zard.

They COULD have made the horns more, uh, horn-y. Like different colored, stiffer, and pointy-er, but that would take the focus away from the main focal point, the face. Not something something you want. Making them same color and rounder adds more flow. Looking at any part of the horn smoothly guides your eyes to the face. Being rounder adds to that.

At the time, that was the best they could do. This, however, is changed with Zard X. The horns are a lot more like a typical dragon's horns now. But at the same time, Zard's mouth now releases flame, which attracts even more attention. So you don't have to worry about the focus shifting towards the horns.
