Most of my ships are platonic or mentor/student kind of ships.

The only ships I really enjoy for romance and stuff is just thinking up real world scenarios, like a pokemart clerk falling for a guy who shops for pokeballs regularly. It's kind of dumb but I think elements of people just trying to live normal lives in the pokemon world is compelling.

You must be really new here if you think it's gotten to "crazy levels" now. It's pretty much dead at this point. Amour shitting and amour hating were both far more annoying when XY was still on-going.

As for hating Serena, well, as I just said, I don't watch the anime. I sometimes watch the more important episodes when I'm bored, like Gym Battles or rival battles, but nothing else. So I'm indifferent to Serena. I give exactly zero fucks about her. Well, that's not entirely right, as I have fapped her many times and find the design to be cute, but beyond that, nothing.

I called her shit because of what I've seen of her, and what I know about her. From what I understand, she was entirely pointless and useless for the first 40 or so episodes. That's around three seasons of a normal anime nowadays, and a full year worth of it. Calling that shit is justified to me, so I too call her shit for that, despite not having watched her.
When she does do SOMETHING, that something is dancing. And that's it. If I ask myself would I spend my time watch an animated character do retarded dances, the answer would be no. Especially so in a Pokemon anime. I would consider that a major waste of time. And I would hate that. So I think that aspect of her is also shit, despite not having watched it.
Most of her dialogue was also pretty shit, from what I've seen. Like in the battles in the sidelines, or when Ash was "sad" he lost the league. Her dialogue was boring.

Finally, the last part of her character, her crush on Ash. I found that cute. I hated how everyone acted about it, thinking they were destined to be together. I actually started liking it when she kissed Ash. Her crush wasn't pointless when she kissed and actually meant something. Unlike every other crush so far. But that's one single part of her that I like, which is basically nothing compared to what I didn't like about her, so I think she's overall shit.

Not the same anon, but there's a lot of Serena development that happens outside of the episodes you mention. Tripokalons/performances she did. I don't want to speak for Serenafags but to me, she is a character that you sort of need to follow the whole way through from start to finish. I was frustrated with her through the first 35 episodes, but after that I actually kind of grew to like her because of the path of development they took her character on. It's been a while since XY for me, but I think he mentions his relationship with Emma as what being a father must feel like. With Serena, she's PC and I don't expect much going on there (I mean, you could make the same case for male PC).

I definitely am jumping the gun and enjoying the SM hype with this, but I'd love to see more with him and Anabel. I'm not sure what to think of that line at the end of the epilogue, though. This ship is shit because of the characters involved. They're boring and have boring interactions. In the original RSE, all May ever does is give you items and fight. Absolutely nothing of interest. In ORAS, she gets a couple of extra scenes, but her personality is still just as boring.

So simply put, it's a boring ship. I can't even imagine the two talking. Because all May ever does is explain game mechanic, challenge you or give an item. This was fine in RSE, because that's all there was. You had nothing else. But now, Brendan gets Lisia, Courtney and Zinnia, while May gets Steven. All of whom are more interesting than your neighbor and have more meaningful dialogue than them. Have more chemistry with your protagonist.

Again, more personality. She talks a lot about Contests, but she also talks a lot about herself, doing a good enough job to make you like her. What made her start liking contests, how she spends her free time, what she hopes to do in future. Her relationship with Brendan is also a well established one. At first, it's more of a senpai/kouhai one, but gradually you become her colleague, her equal. At one point, she pretty much asks you out, only to be interrupted at the last second.

Compared to that, May wants to meet all sorts of Pokemon. And she gives up training at a certain point. Not hard to imagine why someone would call it better.

Unlike the last two, she's not really a liked character, but she has a more detailed character than most. Certainly more interesting. Her relationship with Brendan is based on trust. Brendan being the only one she trusts, and Brendan being the only one who trusts her. They end up getting close. And she watches you sleep. Though she was the cause of that sleep too, but that's besides the point.

Literally the second most important character in the game. And both are pretty close with each other. Would take too much to explain all there is, but he's definitely the closest male to the MC.

The reason being because they're extras. Dawn, Lyra, Hilda and Rosa barely appear. They're just there. You can take them out and nothing changes. May was the rival and Birch's daughter, so a bit more important, but she was part of Masuda's first game. That's her reason for being boring. This is the man who made Shauna to be a literal waifubait, and he even proudly admitted it, like it was a brilliant idea. He probably made May a character simply to give you that nice neighbor girl setting, and even made her quit training so she's nothing but that neighbor girl you're close to.

A would call Serena/Calem a bit better, though. Simply because they had the role of a rival, but didn't quit halfway. They also had a more clear personality. Sure, the goals and history, hopes and dreams everything else concerning them was non-existent or just "Pokemon", they still had a bit more going on. They didn't just "Hee hee, I lost, you're strong, maybe I should quit". They kept going, hated losing like a normal person and made beating you their goal, rather than just laughing it off. I liked that, personally.

Adventures is not considered canon because like the Ash ketchum's anime, it takes too much liberties from the games.

There is no one all-encompassing Pokemon canon. People tend to think of the games as being the main canon since that's where the series started, but it's not the only canon in the series. For a franchise that's as big as Pokemon, only having one canon would be incredibly convoluted.

But every version takes inspiration from the games, and none is completly canon following the same character's portray, storyline and universe rules. It's just lightly inspired. The more faithful we got from now is "Generations", that unfortunately is just some esporadic episodes;

Pokemon is not a comic, the dinamic of hq and a franchise like Pokemon is different.

The pokemon franchise gravitate towards the games, and everything else is to promote the games. So the games are canon. And unless game freak release an adaptation that's the "ultimate canon story of the games", there's no official couples with the protagonist in that universe, because there's lots of possibilities.

Not saying the anime and the manga can't be enjoyable. But they are just filler stories.
