RBY never mentioned Kanto, so I had no idea what Kanto was when I made my first step.
>>32610447
I had no face, because I didn't know what the hell "Kanto" was. It had no name in the first gen, and second gen never explicitly specified what it was in the first half of the game, just that it's another place that exists.

What the hell kind of connection were we supposed to make? This song was never used in RBY.

He meant this one. This blew my fucking mind as a kid. My favorite video game memory.
>>32610447
It honestly took me completely by surprise back then. I was only the second person in my friend group to actually get that far and I had no idea that there was MORE game past the indigo plateau.
>>32610555
Does anyone know where can I find this comic again? I know it's called Douglass or something, but I don't find it anywhere :(
>>32610531
This. I had no idea what Kanto was supposed to be even though I played Blue initially. It took going to Vermillion City after he champion to realize what was going on.
especially with how gutted Kanto was.
>>32610531
yeah, but didn't you check your POKEGEAR MAP?
>>32610504
This I didn't know the gen 1 region was called Kanto at the time, I thought it was called indigo.
>>32610447
Honestly not much. Crystal was my first game and I ended up playing Blue after making gen 1 feel like a crappy downgrade.
>>32610447
technically the kanto/johto boundary is the Tohjo Falls, with one waterfall being on the Johto side and one being on the Kanto side.
So, no, you didn't take your first step into Kanto. The PokeGear map might show the Kanto map but it doesn't mean you're there yet.
>>32610531
It said it on the map in Daisy Oak's house.

If you checked your map as he says you'd recognise the region from RBY though and work out that it must be Kanto.
>mfw the trainers
>>32611512
Only in the Japanese version. The English translation changed "map of Kanto" to "a town map" or whatever it was.

I'm still waiting for an iconic moment like this in the new games. It's like they don't even try anymore desu.

It's called Habits.
>>32610447
I played Gold in Japanese as my first playthrough, I honestly have no idea how I made it that far with no knowledge of Japanese and no guides. The craziest thing was completing the quest to fix the Train, I had trouble with that recently with the game in English.
It was more memorable in HG/SS because I had forgotten about that guy so the nostalgia hit me hard.

This. I do remember being blown away there was more to do after beating Lance.
At first I was happy because I could visit Mt. Moon and finally catch a Clefairy, but the whole place was degraded to a shitty park that didn't even had some good shops or anything to call it park.
>>32622028
There is no park. You're confused about Mt. Moon Square is.
>>32611060
it was still more filled out than sun and moon
>>32622075
Yeah.
At least the Clefairy dance was something awesome to see every monday.

The Kanto music didn't play until after you beat the elite four and went to the other routes. Route 27 still used Johto music.
>>32610447
I didn't know what Kanto was so I didn't have any reaction.
Now, when I went to Vermillion on the other hand my face was
>I was fairly young when I first played this game
>>32611060
The fuck you talking about? It was the only decent post game we ever got
>>32610447
>"The hell is this guy on about?"
mfw I opened the map on the other hand...
>>32625575
I'm sorry that you never played BW2.
The Kanto Revisit really wasn't all that good until HGSS (and even then its still missing a lot) because it was basically an abridged retreck through Kanto, without none of the good parts of Kanto. The trainers were laughably underlevled, half the facilities were "closed" or just downright missing, slapping the gym leaders was a 3 hour journey at the very most. The only worthwhile part was fighing Red on top of a map, and even gettting to that point was a tedious drag unless you cloned rare candies.
>>32625281
Route 27 IS Kanto.

Why would be play BW2 if he's looking for postgame?
No battle frontier, a piss easy gimmick "tournament" in its place... what else was there? """Hard mode""" doesn't hardly count as postgame.
>>32625575
>not playing the frontiers and PWT
It's like you don't want to enjoy the games
