I was thinking how the lackluster of the XY games could been better by improving its most lame feature: the characters
First of all I was thinking that the Scientist of team flare been evil characters that dont pursue glory, they could have some machine with them give them an advantage, each one having a different gadget.
Aliana (Orange hair girl) being in charge of the power plant assault could had two drones (charged with the stolen power) orbiting their pokemon, at the start of the turn those two machines could been fired two thunder shock like attacks, electric type and 25 of power each shot (no paralize chance).
Bryony (Green hair) and Celosia (purple hair) being in charge of the pokeball fabric assult, both could have a gadget orbiting you, a green one and a purple one, both based in thechnology found in the factory,
The green could block 3 of your pokeballs (if you have 5 pokemon it only blocks 2, if 4 just blocks 1, if you have 3 or less it doesnt do anything), your team menu will show you glowing in green the pokemon blocked, this effect could affect even your pokemon in the first place of your team, your weakest pokemon will never be affected by this.
And the purple one should make you loss the control of what pokemon you are going to send, sending a random pokemon every time you have to send one, this gadget also make you send first the weakest pokemon in your team, ignoring who is the first in your team.

Mable (blue hair) should have a gadget orbiting her that shot ice beam like attack that frost your pokemon (contrasting that her main pokemon is Houndoom and always start battling with a fire move), this machine only have 3 shots that are shown their countdown on the machine, the machine fires the ice beam every time you send out a pokemon, making the third shot being blockeable by sending out you first pokemon that was already frozen. This affects pokemon that cant be frozen too.
Xerosic, being some shady basement dweller guy, could have a gadget orbiting over your pokemon, this machine could make a gravity like attack that lowers the speed, attack and special attack by one, this attack is made every time you send out a pokemon. Being the main scientist is going to be the hardest to defeat, so the last 2 grunts you defeat before metting him will break the 4 wall (in their own in-character way) warning you about Xerosic recomending you to save your game before battling him.

To long to want to read, but I agree XY characters are lame. I think the Gym Leaders are the one who need more fixing though. Team Flare scientists would have been forgettable no matter what.

Tierno the moves guy, could be an early move tutor, his team could be the same (with a better movepool) and he challenges you more often. Every time you defeat him he offers you in reward to teach any pokemon in your team a list of moves that he offers.
The first time he challenges he only show you 3 moves, and every time you meet him again the list moves that he offers add more moves.
He doesnt charges you nothing to teach moves, and you can teach those move as many times yopu want, but he dissapears every time you enter to a pokemon center, letting only to teach moves to the team you used to defeat him.
Once you beat the league he roams the region being aviable when you want, you contact him via holo caster to give you his location, fighting him is optional now and has a full list of moves to give you.

if these fuckers where more about making a better world without hinting offing all the Pokemon and not about "muh fasion" it would of been alot better but all they did through out the game is "hur dur muh fasion is X" bullshit

Trevor the dex maniac, he has the same team with better movepool, he challenges you more often and he does it when you enter in zones were are rare pokemon, once you defeat him he compares dexes with you and he always wins (just text shit), he shows you a dex entry of the rarest pokemon in the zone he currently is.
After you beat the league you can find him in the lab in Lumiose assisting Sycamore, you can challenge him once per day, and as a reward he helps you with the national dex showing you a random dex entry that you dont have.
Once you complete the dex, he shows you a blurry photo of a rare pokemon that he cant recognize yet, its a pokemon he battled when he challenged a tourist, that pokemon is from the next generation, and it could be any shill mon of gen 7 like rockruff.

Shauna the amorous rival, she could be the main rival, she challenges you more often and her team could have more pokemon. The final battle she has a full team of 6 pokemon and has some strategy in use.
She could romantically flirt with you irregardles of gender (E rated of course).
After the league she finnaly get a passion for pokemon breeding and she could be found in her home town middling her bussines, you can challenge her once per day but she battles you in a triple battle and now she has a team of 3 Blisseys level 100 with suicide movepool (as a thing part of her new pasion in breeding).
This battle can be changed if you contact her via holo caster and invite her in a date in any city. You will find her in a cafe and the date start with a pokemon battle with her old team but now is a real challenge.

In the english version the text change, she has a explicit crush on you if the trainer is male, but if is female she is flirtatious but she friendzones you once the the date ends, and in both cases you always pay the bill :^) :^) :^) :^) :^) :^)

Lysandre could been almost the same, in the final battle he could had a team of 5 and he could start sending 2 grunts instead, each one having just one pokemon, starting the battle a double one.
The battle goes from double to single when you defeat his grunts. Lysandre could conserve his techno glasses but the other machines could changed to two gadgets each one with a mega stone allowing him to make 3 mega evolutions, one by him, and the other 2 by their gadgets turning off their glowing once their megaevolution is done.
He could had a mega houndoom evolved by him, and a mega gyarados and absol by their machines.

What X&Y (and subsequently Sun & Moon) lacked was freedom, the player needs to be able to explore the world on their own and play at their leisure
