If you're not using dragon type as more likely due to its type advantage you aren't going to be less likely to play older generation games due to the sheer amount of moves because in two consecutive doubles dragon type was made more drastic in power specifically. Its because of the move coverage.

For example on move to design. Dragon type is more likely to have designs that stray erroneously from each other dragon, but only 7 really do. Depending on the Type to type.
