>>32575092
me too
just invest in some repel and cruise around
my only issue is there should have been more little islands all around with some hidden stuff on them
>>32575002
>I don't like this region so that means everything it has is inherently shit
>>32575040
I still don't get how people think Route 113 was butchered or even changed in any way in ORAS. It looks completely the same to me.
>>32575092
Hoenn water routes only suck because the wild Pokémon roster is shit. Had there been a varied roster with like 15 different Pokémon, it would've been so much fucking better. But instead we got nothing but fucking Tentacools.
>>32575110
they made it look a sickly green instead of that ashen grey-brown
they used just the generic trees to instead of the volcanic ones
the lack of trees in general really bothered me about ORAS
>>32575123
Are people seriously bitching and whining about this route SOLELY because they used a different colour? And a lack of trees? Fucking hell this board gets more and more pathetic with every game.
And I thought people here hated that "route walls" used to be a clusterfuck of nothing but trees. I was glad that Gen 6 changed this so it looked more realistic.
>>32575144
>so it looked more realistic
Because slightly darker grass is less traversable than dense trees, right?
>>32575148
I'm not talking about the wall mechanic of it, I'm talking about the aesthetics. Every fucking region pre-Gen 6 all looked like dense jungles when every route is blocked off on all sides with a huge ass wall of perfectly lined, evenly spaced trees.
>>32575144
it doesn't look ashy AT ALL
>>32575165
You're talking about realism and having terrain that looks perfectly traversable not be traversable breaks that. And it does it in a more severe way than having trees aligned in a tile based game imo.
It would have been perfectly possible to have it still be dense without having the trees in a grid.

Why did gen 4 games revert to having tons of straight lines?
Just compare >>32575568 to >>32574963
>>32575599
Because gen 4 was the worst generation. They forgot how to actually make the games better and instead just jammed in tons of filler.
>>32575599
Sinnoh routes aren't as straight as Johto's. For Johto, that's because Gen 2 was limited, so the remake had the same "flaw" (I don't think it's actually a flaw, but whatever).
>>32575599
Because that particular gen 4 game was modelled after gen 2, which was incredibly simplistic.

What >>32575123 said
They also altered the soot gimmick to be less interesting and BUTCHERED the music. I dislike a lot of ORAS' remixes but Route 113 is the worst of them all.
To continue posting good routes and not just complaining about ORAS, I love this area.
>>32578487
those two give me the most trouble. In a previous version of this image, that's exactly what I did. Even now I'm not 100% on them like that
>>32575599
It's trying to remain semi-faithful to GSC, while sprucing up the visuals. The path is basically the same but it introduced height variation and a consistent river to tie the route together more. I feel HGSS handles its locations the best of the remakes, since FRLG is too close to the originals (it's completely serviceable but I find it too blocky, it's basically just the RBY version of the region resized) and ORAS is an eyesore that cuts down areas from the originals.
>>32578492
>BUTCHERED the music
Jesus did the music kill your parents or something? It's a great remix, and before you complain about 'muh clicks' they're not even that jarring. I mean, it's weird that they added them, but by no means does this suddenly make it shit.
Unova Route 23
>>32575144
what do you mean "solely"
are you saying that's not a valid complaint, that it's somehow not acceptable to make note of how the visual elements of the area were changed? Changing the colours brings out a very different atmosphere, as does stripping the area of most of its trees.
>>32578828
Route 113 is the best song from RSE, full stop. I hold it in very high regard, which is why I am so harsh about the ORAS version.
The clicks are bad in the ORAS version but there's a lot more going on than just that. I abhor the synths used as the lead melody. In RSE the melody is rather delicate, and also changes instruments in the second half of the song; ORAS using the same overbearing synth through almost the entirety of the song. ORAS getting the instrumentation of its melodies wrong is a recurring problem for the entirety of the game.
All the little parts from the RSE version, whether the rapidly descending notes coming from the GBA's DirectSound or the GBS pulse channels strumming along like a string instrument, are made difficult to hear due to poor balance in the song's volume. If you listen really hard you can hear them in the ORAS version (and they at least made the GBS channels an actual guitar strumming along), but the fact that I have to strain to hear means someone fucked up, considering I don't have to do that at all in the original version.
https://youtu.be/iLd1OoCQNLs?t=1h2m24s
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x3ZUBRfdKB8
I can't imagine someone listening to a high-quality recording of the original (high quality meaning with the light static inherent to the GBA's shitty audio removed), then listening to the remake, and saying it was a faithful transition.
And to anyone planning to reply to this post with "quit sperging out over a single song tl;dr" I'm just trying to articulate in detail what I find wrong with the song since anon seems flabbergasted at how someone can dislike this remix despite it being a common opinion.
>>32578492
I miss when locked off areas (like those little alcoves blocked by a cut tree) were just grass with some rare pokes hiding in it.
'member when the game was actually about collecting pokemon?
>>32577204
man that whole expedition up to Fortree then back down again is great
and Fortree itself makes a perfect little rest stop
>>32578457
Kanto and Johto are practically the same boring, bland regions.
>>32578828
I barely ever hear people saying that ORAS has great overall remixes. Some of their remixes are quite good but a lot of them are either bad or polarizing.
>>32578955
I see. I still think it isn't that bad, but I can definitely see where you're coming from. I will agree that the omission of the horns in the last half of the song being replaces with the same synth is kinda lame, that's something I noticed too.
Good post anon, any other anon would've just posted a "lol shit taste faget" and leave it at that, but you actually fully detailed your opinions in a clear manner.
>>32580855
I think the majority of ORAS has great music actually, but for some reason a few of the biggest fan-favorite tracks of the original got messed around with for no reason, like the dive theme suddenly losing like half its length and Mt. Pyre exterior losing its fast rhythm. I think a lot of people focus on those but then forget about the great remixes. I'm just as upset that those tracks were badly remixed, but that doesn't mean the rest isn't great.
>>32581427
Mt Pyre exterior is one of my favourites actually. I think most of the Route themes (maybe except 113 but even then) are really good. Route 119 turned out fantastically. Route 120 is a toss up between the new and original versions, but Route 120's theme is fantastic regardless.
The new Elite Four theme isn't as good, and I've never cared for the Champion theme in either version.
>Everyone saying Route 119
It was a great route, and an awesome secret base location, but I really hated the Mach/Acro bike thing. Everyone obviously kept the Mach bike on hand at all times, since it was faster AND could clear some obstacles. Having to fly back to the shop and switch out just so you could access a berry patch and a couple of bases was stupid, or you would have to gimp yourself by keeping the Acro bike all the time. I can't remember if they fixed that in ORAS, but I hope they did.
Also I remember the routemons being pretty unimpressive, and the Feebas encounter mechanic was bullshit.
>>32579516
But they couldnt be more different.
>>32578524
The river makes it feel more like a canyon, and it even empties into the bay between New Bark Town and Tohjo Falls.
This one shouldn't have been left out of GSC.

Why does it matter? You don't see the routes from that height in game and theres barely a marginal difference on screen. What matters is the level design you dongo.
Shit like that doesn't matter if your cliffs have 90 degree angles in the first place.
