It would not surprise me if they announce a new game for the 3DS that releases this year.

Only three weeks left. I don't see GF announcing new games at E3 as it's something they've never done before and could probably overshadow the other games Nintendo wants to show at E3. They haven't revealed what's the Treehouse game is going to be, but Pokémon doesn't seem like a game that could be shown for many hours a day. It doesn't have the multiplayer Splatoon had, the replayability Super Mario Maker had and the open world BotW had.

Because Japan releases games a year later there wasn't a break year outside Japan since 2009 with Platinum release (B2W2 were released outside Japan three months later), and because all Pokémon games are released on the same day over the world then we also share the break year with Japan, so get used to it.
