My system is that I have a box for less-than-ideal Pokemon, with another box for WT-worthy Pokemon. Once the reject one is filled, I release them, and the WT box gets filled, traded off, and sorted probably every 5-6 reject boxes. Might not be the fastest method, but it's easy to manage.

Birds have really simple patterns where each DV corresponds 1:1 to its stat, so say, Articuno's attack can range from 90 to 105.
I don't really know if the att-def switch changed the HP always being 0 or 8 so don't quote me on that. Nidorina all the way down to Dratini are available as shinies via Game Corner.

When you get Vulpix, it will be level 18. The problem is that the lower the level, the harder it will be to tell. Therefore, it's best to level it up via Rare Candy. I know its still possible to glitch items in Yellow, but its more convoluted and I don't know the whole process. The required DVs are as follows:

HP: 0, 4
Attack: 10
Defense: 2, 3, 6, 7, 10, 11, 14, 15
Special: 10
Speed: 10

Now for a level 18 Vulpix, see pic related. Notice how the stats are similar? You won't be able to truly tell its DV value. At a higher level however (I chose 50, also included), you can see its easier to tell the stats, and therefore DVs, apart.

In this case, I'll just tell you what stats to look for:

HP: 98, 102
Attack: 56
Defense: 47, 48, 51, 52, 55, 56, 59, 60
Special: 65, 80 (Either SpA or SpD, not sure which was which for Vulpix in Gen 1, but it's one of these)
Speed: 80

Guys, so.. serious question..what's the advantage and or draw of "Shiny" pokemon? I randomly found and caught a Shiny Fearow...it looks green..I don't like it. In fact all of the shiny variants I've seen look like crap, and from what I can tell...they don't have anything special about them except color?? What's the attraction to them?

Personally, I'm in it for the ones that I think look good, I'm not really out to get them all, like Living Dex Anon is. But my ultimate goal? Sorry for the late reply, but yes, you are correct. Now you just have to reset until the DVs are correct and the Vulpix is shiny. You know the possibility is there from my shiny Omastar, now you just need to be both patient and persistent. Funny, I did attempt to but I felt like I might screw up on getting it since if it misses Sketch, it'll struggle to death. Combined with the fact that getting it in a Beast Ball is hard, I just caught the Smeargle farthest in a chain and bred it from there. Silly I know, but I prefer breeding since I can do it on and off without worry of loosing it.

I used the Ditto chaining method to chain Smeargle since it's essentially the same thing (Something with only Recycle then Trick/Switcheroo a Leppa Berry onto it)
Then I use a Synchronize Pokemon with a move with a lot of PP (Work Up or a low level attacking move like Confusion are good) when the shiny finally arrives
