Yes, only bad thing is the third act and, if relevant, the marriage event are entirely RNG-dependent. With the amount of in-game events, you may need to wait at least two in-game years before you can marry.

If you liked RF1, you'll probably love RF3 or RF4, if not both. RF3 has less random chance and 12 waifus, and while RF4 might have graphical and gameplay improvements, it has more random chance and only 6 waifus (plus 6 husbandos). Though one waifu comes with ghost blowjobs.
They're both good games.

Since the other anon answered the question about RF4, I'll forgo that.

The second game has smaller dungeons, but the combat system is way better and the addition of the bulletin board really makes the characters 10 times better. Not exaggerating one bit.

The third game takes that, and makes it a billion times better. Still not exaggerating. Again, the dungeons are a bit small and few compared to the first one, but it's way more fun, making it faster with more options, combos and magic.
The characters are detailed enough to basically be considered real people. They get a new dialogue every day, and I mean that literally, and they have really nice and fun personalities. You'll want to talk to everyone, everyday. And there's a shit ton of events and quests to flesh them out and they all get their own character arcs, and you'll fall in love with them. Not just the waifus, I mean you'll love everyone.

Play the RF3 first, you will love it if you liked RF1 even a tiny bit. I'll recommend skipping RF2. It's not that good.

>I'll recommend skipping RF2. It's not that good.

>>
>>32557392
And why exactly? If you could explain what it does better than others, I would appreciate it.
>>
>>32557474
In terms of immersion, it knocks all the others out of the park. You spend the first generation of the game getting to know the entire cast through the notice board/festivals, until you decide you're ready to settle down and marry one of the eligible candidates. From there on the growth of the town is really down to you, you're the one who has to collect the materials and the money in order to build a school for the town that will serve future generations for the sake of your newborn child. Then in the second generation you get to experience the town and the people all over again from an entirely new perspective, traversing the same dungeons and interacting with the same people but it's all entirely different now you're playing as the child you created. There's just something I really loved about going to the very school you helped to build as well as seeing how much all of your achievements from the first generation counted in the second.

There is no other rune factory game that lets you have that experience, the children are just treated as an afterthought and you get a few set dialogue lines, nothing else.

>>
>>32557545
Plus getting a ton of new cast members to interact with thanks to the characters from the first generation getting married and having children of their own was a fun bonus, it just really helped to sell every one of the townsfolk as having their own lives outside of the times you get to interact with them.
>>
>>32557563
The only aspect of RF2 I disliked (but I understand why it was necessary) was how if you married a girl that had a rival, Yue was simply used as a spare in their stead so that their child could be born. Even in cases where it makes absolutely no sense in canon, like Jake x Yue despite Jake having a deep hatred of all humans and very clearly only having feelings for Cecilia.

It's probably just me, but that system made me feel very shoehorned into marrying Yue.
>>
>>32556449
I'd remove Yugi-Oh.

>>32557392
RF2 the best with that unrefined gameplay
>>32557545
>RF2 immersive with that repetitious dialogue
>>
>>32557616
It's the world and first/second generation that make it a more immersive experience than the others, I never said it was thanks to the dialogue.

I've played RF1 and RF3 besides RF2, I don't see what's so bad about the gameplay compared to those two.
>>
>>32557556
>japanese pronounciation

3/4 have lots of improvements over 1/2 in pretty much every area (farming, combat, villager interaction, item management) and your options don't flatline like in 2 (gen 1 flatlines and gen 2 starts from a big dip)

Having a good world is fine and going to school in gen 2 is an interesting bit but significantly less writing quantity sticks a knife in that effort since it feels like you're surrounded by robots
>>
>>32557545
>>32557563
That explains it, at least. A fair reason to like it. But I'll disagree on calling it the best in any of those regards.

Let's start with the notice board. Yes, it was great. Made the characters much better than RF1's. But RF3 has that, but better. There were more requests, and those requests has more, and in my opinion, better dialogue. You got to know the characters much better.
Yes, the festivals helped you get to know characters in RF2, but they just essentially added a couple of lines of dialogue. You get those literally every day in RF3. Characters saying something new everyday alone made it much more immersive and helped you like the characters more than anything RF2 did.

You get getting married in RF3 too, but the marriage is handled much better. Without spoiling anything, they had a big event right before your marriage, and I loved that. I never cared about an event so much as that one.

You get to make changes. You make a school, which everyone uses. Here's the thing. Among kids who use that school, I only cared about Cammy and Roy. The rest just appeared out of nowhere. I had no attachment to them. On the other hand, the change you make in RF3, bringing the races together, affected characters I had time to know and care for. Ultimately, I didn't care too much about either of these, but if I had to pick one, I'd pick the RF3 change. I HATED that school. It was the worst idea in the game. It took the workshop away, the time-based system for learning recipes was annoying, there was not a single good thing about it, it restricted the workshop to just the second generaion. There was not a single good thing about it.

Continued in next post, where I talk about the second Generation. The second generation was the worst executed idea in the game. It's only good on paper and paper only.
>>
>>32557817
For one, it forcibly changes the protagonist. That was shit. I had grown to like Kyle a bit. He wasn't great, but he had a humorous way of looking at things. They remove him, completely. That's a shit move. I cared about him. I cared about the relationships he had built. They reset ALL of those. All I did in the first Generation, all of that has been reset. The quest after quest I did, earning affection, it's gone. For no reason. Kyle could still be the protagonist, but no, he isn't. And I can't go back to the time it wasn't gone.

It doesn't help that the new protagonist is boring. It's a kid. The most prominent trait of that kid is that s/he's innocent. That's it. There's nothing more. And that was boring as fuck. And because he's a kid, he can build no serious relationships. So there was no point in talking to people anymore. He was boring, and it was going to lead to nothing. It wasn't entertaining, and it won't have any good effects.

Then there's the gameplay. For one, the workshop and bosses are limited to the second Generation. You'll likely spend more time in the first one, doing quests and building up a relationship, but the most essential, and the most fun gameplay parts are locked during that Generation. On top of that, the dungeons were the same dungeons. You get new areas, but I had already seen this dungeon and gotten used of it, so that was disappointing.

That alone is enough to break immersion. I stopped playing here in my first playthrough, as it got boring. But you claim this still adds to the immersion. So how? Because time passes? But does it? Other than the appearance of new characters and a new building, nothing changed. Your kid, despite being 9, has zero affection with anyone in town. The kids from 9 years ago, Cammy and Roy, are still kids. This is literally the best way to break immersion.

I can go on even longer, but I'm sure you get the idea. I don't think it handled immersion well at all. Even RF1 was better in this regard.

It's suppose to make fun of the fact that Mexicans typically infringe on copyrights cause no one will do anything to them. Theres some food joint in Mexico that clearly has SSJ2 Goku as its mascot but he's wearing a cooking apron and has a spatula in his hand.
>>
So, in the end, RF3 is probably the best due to having the highest amount of waifus to choose from, as well as having most of the gameplay refinements? Or are the fewer ones in RF4 enough better to make up for it?

It depends on if you like more "realistic" or more "memorable" characters. The cast of RF 3 is fucking insane, while the cast of RF 4 is merely unhinged. The cast of RF 4 have slightly more fleshed out characters, partly due to the much larger town they socket into, while the girls of 3 mostly have to prop themselves up in the ghost town that is Sharance.
>>
>>32560723
I generally don't go into games for their realism, so I guess that means RF3 is the better choice? At least to start on.
Also, I heard something about a mermaid-ish character in the series somewhere. What game is that in?
>>
>>32560785
RF3, she's the one in the post you replied to.
RF 3 is better to start with anyways, as a number of quality of life improvements were made to RF 4, which makes it hard to play backwards.
