As a d/ic/k, I can say Zekrom could not have been designed without an extremely thorough understanding of anatomy. It's one of my favorites.

I agree. Reshiram, on the other hand, is awful. Ever since day 1, its weird chicken body, long neck, and awkward arms always bothered me. It looks better when its arms are at rest, but even still, Zekrom is the superior of the two.

I honestly really like that so many gen 1 Pokemon are clearly animal based while simultaneously having no clear real-world equivalent, or are just some weird nonsensical hybrids. You don't see many Pokemon like Clefable, Primeape, Nidoking/queen, Marowak, Alakazam, etc. anymore. And I'm not even a genwunner.

I think a lot of the fairies and dragons can come off that way, because fairies and dragons are fictional anyway, so GF has more license to pull something out of their ass. Even when they do something really weird at first glance like Mareanie or Turtonator, you can do a little research and find out that they're actually based on very obscure but real animals. Which don't get me wrong, I love that, and it's one of my favorite things about the series, but there's also something beautiful about the vague yet iconic simplicity of something like Snorlax, for example. Is it a bear? A cat? Maybe based on bridge trolls, even? The only answer for that is that it's its own original creature, a Snorlax.

Snorlax also fits in with this thread, too. He's great.

You kidding me? I love Golurk's XY model. Its animations and models gave more weight to it than the mediocre and ugly Gen V tweening, and it actually benefitted from the more simple idle animation of XY's 3D models because of its design, being a fuckhuge ancient lumbering robot.

I never really cared for Golurk until XY, and now it's my favorite Ground type.

Zekrom and Black Kyurem > Reshiram and White Kyurem

Black Kyurem's cables fit so much better with Zekrom's technological theme, and it looks like a cool cyborg as opposed to a white Kyurem which just looks like a chicken with half its feathers taken off, and those flimsy arms.
