The moment you step out of the caves in MT Cornet to hear ominous fanfares and ancient ruins, it's so glorious. Being able to create a god is pretty sweet too.

I wish it wasn't so short, and postgame in BW2. I love the style of this, and reminding me of Edinburgh is just another nice touch. Iccirus City is comfy as fuck too, but BW2 made it postgame too. BW2 put most of my favourite areas postgame god damn it.

For Alola, because it's getting little love, I really like the open design of Poni Plains. All of the Poni areas had that desolate but comfy feel and the music only enhanced that big time. Shame they saved the best looking routes for the postgame honestly.

Dendemille may be the comfiest town of all. I love the snow and the giant windmill, the giant ass grind rail, and that cute music,

I know people hate cave and mountain routes but I loved Mt. Coronet. Like, no matter where you went in the region, you were almost always in the shadows of Mt. Coronet. It was a constant presence throughout the journey and felt imposing. And when you eventually got to climb it and face off Team Galactic and depending on the version, go into the Distortion wolrd, it was pretty hype despite it really just being a long system of caves.

The music was mysterious yet hype too.

I really like the liberal use of ledges. You get many different possible routes down the mountain so there's lots of room for exploration.
Having two halves separated by a river is an interesting way to adapt the original map and looks great. It's a bit of a shame they took the dragons out of the pond because it's the perfect spot to put something exclusive or rare (even if you can get them in the Dragon's Den anyway).

Is this the cave that you had to use Rhyhorn ride to get to? Unavoidable encounters from that + the unavoidable shadow encounters inside the cave made me hate this area.

Doesn't help that it's only navigable in a weird first-person perspective, and if you have to backtrack you're forced into more battles. Such a shame because it is a really pretty area.

Agreed. Sinnoh felt like the most lively region due to the huge lore and plot elements involved. Though admittedly I've never been to Johto -- in either Gens II or IV -- due to my past dislike of its Pokemon. Now that HGSS are expensive as all hell nowadays, i really regret not getting them.

Route 23 followed by that victory road is the hest god damn final gauntlet in the entire fucking series.
-Those waterfalls and cliffs.
-That strength puzzle at the end of the road.
-The ancient ruins beneath the league mountain and surrounding forest.
-The dipilated fucling ruins of Ns castle in the post game.
I swear to god Unova might get a bit linear, but their world building and map design was some next level shit and not just as a Pokemon game, even as an RPG its got some serious cred. I am still trying to figure out how they went from that to XY, but SM was good in that regard as well.

Also, I have this weird issue where I like the Sinnoh region but detest a good chunk of their mons and don't actually enjoy playing through the games. It's fucking annoying.

And i think your dislike of the Sinnoh games is pretty reasonable, at least if you played DP first. those games were insanely subpar compared to Plat and HGSS.

I imagine a reworked underground system would be really cool with all the new online capabilities, something similar to PSS. Now buying traps and such can actually be more useful if passerbys can join. Back in the day, I've only ever explored the underground system in local multiplayer with friends a handful of times. Sure as hell was fun though.

Agreed, but i think it might be somewhat justified in-universe, since all alola is is a bunch of random islands. The only caves present were Diglett's cave on Akala island, and the cave past the elevator on Mount Lanakila, both of which only served as gateways between other places. Only other one i can think of is Resolution Cave on Poni Island, and even that had next to nothing in it.

Hopefully Mount Coronet in the Gen IV remakes can pick up the slack.
