Yeah, and I got disgustingly lucky. 928SR's, on a full odds hunt. Quiet nature which is kind of lame, but at least it's not -Attack. When I checked my menu after catching it and saw >>32516741 I thought my game had bugged out for a second.

It's on my Emerald now, and once I get these last two pinch berries from Colo, i'm done with that game forever. I can't believe how lucky i've been with Colosseum. Gonzap's Skarmory and Evice's Tyranitar, and both of them are shiny.

I'm done with Colosseum now, i have all the pinch berries, and the only two shinies you can steal from crime bosses, Gonzap's Skarmory and Evice's Tyranitar. There's nothing left on it for me.

This was a mistake, but hopefully my insane hunt inspires you all to never give up. I got lucky, i could have been here for an entire year doing this, not just a few weeks. The real disappointing thing is no other shiny will feel as good as that Tyranitar, it won't get better than that. Good luck on all your hunts, /shw/.

They really fucked up Zapdos' concept for its shiny colors.
The original gen2 was the best because the normal one was really bright yellow and shiny was marginally darker.
After that it just went downhill and now it's virtually unnoticeable if not for the sparkles.

Best case scenario, Feraligatr has a 50/50 shot of 1shotting her Vileplume, assuming it has perfect Sp Def/HP iv's. You NEED a perfect, ev trained in special attack Mystic Water Feraligatr for this. Quagsire's not as much of a problem, you could probably just slap a Choice Band and spam EQ with it, it's the only thing at that point with it. I'd recommend just going for anything after the master ball, or with a high catchrate. I wouldn't think less of you for cheating in a master ball early.

Also, YOU CANNOT RESET FOR IT IN REALGAM, IT IS FOREVER GENERATED AFTER THE FIRST FIGHT IF YOU DO NOT CATCH IT.

Adding onto what i said, you might want an Ampharos instead of a sleep setter, Twave is more accurate than Noctowl's Hypnosis.

So, here's what an average reset will look like:

>You hit Reset on your GC/Wii that you moved close to where you're sitting
>have a party slot open
>you run out of the hotel, because that skips the UFO travel animation for leaving the Under Colosseum
>you use the R-Disk that you set at the top of your Key Items slot
>run up to Venus and start the fight
>SurfQuake, and assuming everything goes right, after that Suicune comes out
>Switch out one of your pokemon for Ampharos/Noctowl, then Twave/Hypnosis while chucking a Net Ball with the other pokemon
>once it's asleep/paralyzed, throw balls with one mon, and weaken it with the weakest attack Ampharos/Noctowl knows
>keep doing this until it's caught
>after Venus runs away, check your party. The portrait will be in a different pose if shiny, along with the different color
>hit reset

Best case scenario, you 1shot all 4 pokemon, and instantly catch it, whether you got a lucky Net Ball or cheated in a Master. My estimate for this all is 5-6 minutes. My fastest Ttar reset took 4:35.

You will do many Mt. Battle runs. You will need to reset for Croconaw, to make sure you get a 31 Sp Attack IV+Modest one. You can guess the nature with an IV checker before the game tells you the nature. Quagsire has more leniency because none of Venus's pokemon resist EQ, especially not with a Band. It doesn't matter if EQ kills Feraligatr, in fact it's probably preferable, considering it saves you from switching in Ampharos/Noctowl

Ampharos means you dont need to hope Hypnosis hits, at the cost of a lower catch rate. I highly recommend grinding Feraligatr/Quagsire up to level 100 at Mt Battle. Above all else, DO THIS.

You MUST EV Train Feraligatr for MAXIMUM special attack. This is not up for debate. I don't know quite when it starts getting EVs when shadow pokemon, so i'd just not use Croconaw until you Time Flute it. Quagsire, again, has a ton of leniency because it's such a good pokemon in Colosseum, getting Surf/EQ naturally.

Besides, a technicality doesn't mean it's impossible to RNG abuse in them. It is possible, albeit with emulation, but it's still possible.

Even then, just because RNG abuse being easiest in gen3 due to Emerald, it doesn't mean it's not still the gen with the hardest to acquiere shinies without deliberate exploitation of the programming.
It's simple; no MM, no friend safari, no Dexnav, no Radar, no SOS, no in-game guaranteed giveaways, no nothing. Gen3 doesn't babysit your ass, you either buckle up and test your sheer luck, or tough shit you ain't gonna get your special snowflake Pokémon.

I've been shiny hunting Kyogre on Emerald but was wondering if it would be easier to hunt in Heartgold or if there was any trick to shiny hunting in Emerald as I've heard it's not the best to hunt in, any tips for a beginner?

I unintentionally started in 2014 with a random shiny Joltik, but I officially started a week after X and Y came out. I got a random shiny Gurdurr, a horde Floatzel and a 5% Lickitung in Victory Road before I got the shiny charm, and I got a shiny Pumpkaboo exactly on Halloween later on. I figured that with the amount of shinies I could obtain via methods, I could get somewhere fast, and I do a few full-odd pre-Gen 6 hunts also. I'm still hunting for Unown in FireRed, Groudon in Emerald and Mewtwo in SoulSilver.

As of now I'm still looking for Moltres. Some have been close, some have been stupid close, most are just not-close garbage.
There's a special place in Pokemon hell for those that get the triple 10DV where it's needed but then the attack (which is a 50/50 chance pretty much) is wrong and soils it. Either something from Colosseum or Manaphy. Nascour's Metagross and any of the Gen 2 beasts from Colosseum are THE hardest shinies to SR for in the series. SM starters have nothing on Colosseum SR's.

Yes you do but that doesn't mean you can't MM though if you have a living dex the spending a one more day to get the charms would be preferable. As to how to speed run my only advice is to bring mons from the bank(naturally within level range so they obey you) and fight only the battles you must and avoid NPC's. Still there's a lot of plot and cut scenes and it will still take a lot of time

Even in Emerald you can to find things legit if you try hard enough, I found a Smeargle by not shutting off my game for several days at a time, an Altaria, and a Gulpin at complete random.
The grey zone is on SRing since arguably you could be doing it for all eternity but if you don't have an early shiny frame then it's pointless, so RNG abusing is pretty much a necessity.
Then again, most SRables in Emerald are also available in R/S, so it's hard to draw the line.

So I know you can get Pokemon in gen 1 that when transfered to gen 2 would be shiny, would those Pokemon still be shiny if transferred to gen 7 via Pokebank or does the transfer alter whatever made it shiny in gens 1/2?

First of all, you need to have the virtual console version for 1-7 transfers, so so far there's no real way for a save to be able to connect to both gen2 and gen7 at the same time.
Second of all, they flipped the requirements of attack and defense, so a Pokemon that would be shiny in gen2 won't necessarily be in gen7 (unless it was a perfect four 10DV one).
For a gen2 transfer you need an exact 10 on defense, and attack is flexible; for a gen7 transfer you need an exact 10 on attack, and defense is flexible.

So in short, no. Again, unless it's a perfectly aligned four 10DVs on all stats.

I don't know from where you're expecting to find it on, have it be on an emulator, VC, or a cartridge, but to manage GBC saves on physical cartridges I know you can use a Mega Memory Card.

Needless to say if you're gonna do it on VC you'll need to hack your 3DS to export the save and then put it in a gen1 cart, but if you already have the cart then might as well do it there to begin with.
Another option would be still exporting the save to an emulator, then make the transfer to a Crystal save still through emulation, then put that save in your cart.
But I'm just assuming things at this point, I don't know your source hunting game.

I'm honestly surprised by the amount of dedication some of you put in, I came in here to glean tips. First shiny I ever got aside from red garydos, was randomly found minutes after I was given pokeballs in BW2 - a shiny patrat. Turned him into an ultimate pokemon catcher with superfang, mean look, and hypnosis (I'd use false swipe, but he can't learn that in gen VII. Seeing as most people are doing MM ITT, I'll go with that, but holy shit you colo reseters are patient.

Not from what I remember, I don't think you have to be a champion to get the Shiny Charm. I completed an Alola Living Dex in my Moon version and traded over all 10 boxes of Pokemon to my Sun so that I could get the charm to hunt Type: Null. This was pre-Bank update, at least. I could be full of shit and have awful memory though, but I at least remember getting the Shiny Charm before I even got to the last island.

Thanks to the GTS I completed the entire Alolan Dex when I was still on the third Island.
I still haven't hatched any Shinies yet, but that's only because I haven't done much breeding yet.
On the other hand, thanks to the Shiny Charm, I have encountered and caught 15 random wild Shinies, though.
