Nope. Bigger generations have too much variety to lump them into one big category like this. This is taking some of the most extreme examples, and lumping them together. I don't think there's much philosophy behind most generation designs.

I agree that I'm a little confused about Gen 6 but I can see the point in Gen 3. Most Hoennmons are just animals with simple patterns and primary colors. Look at Camerupt, Whiscash, Linoone, Mightyena, Keckleon, etc.

Sure the most early shitmons are like that, but you then get, Blaziken, Ludicolo, Shiftry, Serviper, Sableye, Mawile, Aggron, Claydol, Flygon (lol), Metagross, Manetric, Pelipper, Sharpedo, Crawdaut, Altaria, and so on who aren't just animals with primary colors, and sometime not even animals at all.

I still don't get that thing where whole gens are judged when there is so much diversity from different designers and themes within each gen. I'm literally trying to get it, but it seems much easier to judge Pokemon on a case by case basis. Hell I'd probably have an easier time grouping Pokemon from different gens together based on aesthetics than whatever it is you guys are doing. Gen 1 is the only gen that I can say looks kind of same-y because of all the angry eyed half reptilian Pokemon.

Gen 1 and 2 are full of unique designs. They only vaguely resemble animals and had an aesthetic that could easily be labeled as "pokemon-ish". Like >>32520745 said, the only Gen 3 Pokemon that have that aesthetic are Exploud and Dusklops (and I'd add Aggron and Tropius to that list). But most of them are literally my mom's creature with bright colors. Gen 4 was truly the downfall of the Pokemon aesthetic, though.

Not saying I dislike these pokemon, but your view is obviously biased, things like typical kaiju dinosaurs gets a free pass but "hopkinsville goblin", "futakachi-onna", "tengu" are ""my mom's X"". Gen 1 has more "literally just a animal" designs than any other generation, there's no need to deny that, it's just part of how pokemon is.
