The UBs look fucking great. Really odd and out-there designs, the weirder and more otherworldly the better. Pheromosa is by far the worst UB in my opinion, simply because it doesn't really look that strange compared to the others, or pokemon even. UBs like Buzzwole, Xurkitree or Kartana are great because they don't really have a face, so you can't properly read them, making them very strange and off-putting. Pheromosa just looks like a bug lady.

Do the UBs make anyone else feel uneasy, in a good way? I think it's a combination of their otherworldliness, mysterious origins, and strength which rivals or surpasses legendaries and mythicals. They actually seem eerily threatening. Come to think of it, they do "legendary" better than most regular legendaries. Fuck, I wish they were more fleshed out in S/M.

Can anyone explain why they look so much like the some of NPCs in-game? Is there a reason for this or is it just an easter egg?

I remember hearing a rumor that the NPC's turned into the UB's, but I'm guessing that's not true.

Not trying to shit up your thread, but I need to vent here. I fucking hate every single UB. Yes, I get that the UBs are supposed to look "alien" or "surreal" but their designs are just so shitty and out-of-place looking that it's unreal. I mean just look at this fucking mess. The design itself is bad enough, but it also makes no sense lore-wise. How does an alternate space dimension have a creature that's composed of manmade electrical wiring? It's utterly nonsensical and ruins any immersion or believability. Deoxys did the whole "alien" thing way better whilst still managing to blend in with the rest of the Pokemon aesthetic. Also if nothing else, many of the UBs typings make me scratch my head. I wish I could like the UBs but I dislike every single aspect of every single one.

Nilhilego is supposed to be a glass jellyfish filled with poisonous, corruptible substances. Rock is the closest thing we have to glass Type-wise and the Poison part speaks for itself

Kartana is made of paper. Paper comes from trees and trees fall under Grass. I imagine the Steel typing is supposed to allude to it having sword like properties, and also to make it extra weak to Fire, like I guess paper probably should be

Guzzlord is a Dragon. Obviously. A fat one. A fat Dragon with a Dark Typing that represents the dirty great black hole that is it's mouth

Celesteela is a satellite, specifically based on the Japanese SELENE (Which is nicknamed Kaguya by Japan). This is why is LOOKS like the Moon Princess found in the bamboo from the story, but has a typing that fits what it actually is

Do you think UBs/Beast Boost will get any special treatment in the TCG? I could see a set featuring regular Pokemon receiving totem boosts as a gimmick along with UBs and their signature ability. Strange that Necrozma is being featured before even Nihilego.

some friends of mine think that it is because it would not 'make sense' if a pokemon was normal in it intro cutscene and then shiny when you actually battled it
even though that was not a problem for gamefreak before and they had no problems with it being normal in the overworld/cutscenes then shiny when you actually battled it

Your friends are full of crap, I agree, since you don't even see most of the Gen 7 legendaries in the overworld/they don't get intro cutscenes.
