okay as long as we're in the "criticize amourshipping" part of the thread, I find the overused visual parallels the show did between ash and serena in ways like this to be a really lazy way of building depth to the ship. really the show was so focused on making them the "perfect pair" right off the bat by checking off a list of romantic cliches that they forgot to make them feel like friends. most of their conversations feel stilted and off because the writers were constantly trying to push a specific angle with serena in a way that had a very unnatural flow to it.
