Who's ready for a late night Sage Sunday? I'll spare you the longwinded intro and jump straight into the updates:

TWO POINT OH SOON. Promise this time. It's soon. We're at this point just doing housekeeping stuff, making sure we haven't left any important details that we want feedback on out of the demo, and some final bugtesting and balance stuff. Keeping with Sage policy I won't give a specific deadline (because we don't even have an internal one), but it's soon okay? Just trust me goy.

Yes, after Erace admin gets confirmed there will be a proper survey for the names. The naming theme has not been confirmed. There have been some opinion polls taken but I'm not even sure having a naming theme is confirmed. Could be wrong about that last part though.

Earlier today we were doing shit about the Town Map because the old version is shit.
I suggested doing a little side bar with the extra space we have to show some info about the location highlighted (because the region is square while the screen is rectangular).
Then I made a little mockup of what it could look like and it was pretty popular. We haven't made any final decision on it so things are still subject to change.

Personally, i'd just have the mainland take up more of the screen and not have much of the ocean be visible at all if the islands aren't gonna be visible/you guys aren't gonna have them anymore.

Also, the aeshetic you are going for there with the mountains and jungle and desert looks sort of bad. I'd go a bit more minimalist.

It took two years to go from one gym to three gyms. We want the usual eight gyms total. At this rate, we'll be done in 2022.

Of course, there's a lot of stuff getting things working in the earlier part of the game that are now done and won't need to be addressed again, but then there's also a lot more plot in the latter part of the game.

Gorgeous maps, love the Erace admin, that type-based evo animation is awesome. I think seeing what type the evo is just before seeing the mon will get people playing blind very hype.

The evolution animation is still very much a work in progress. We haven't even got the background layer in the gifs posted here, and there's currently an explodey bit in concept. Here's a mockup with two psychic possibilities though.

After 2.0, there will be a moratorium on hype, and no further public builds until completion. If 2.0 triggers a C&D, we'll definitely shut down the current publicly visible stuff. Otherwise, we'll back away from it a bit and there definitely won't be an effort made to engage normies, but we're all on /vp/ pretty regularly anyway so threads like this will probably still happen. A C&D won't stop development, and at most will slow it a bit while we migrate the wiki to a non-public format, but that's the only thing I can think of that would be impacted. The only other downside is a lack of new contributors, but most of the group has been around since like 2013 (and most new contributors that actually stick and do stuff around are actually returning contributors of similar pedigree) so that won't change much either.

It should be in 2.0, if not it'll probably be in 2.1 or 2.2 along with any bugfixes. But considering we've just discovered some tedious bugs with rock smash and cut and there's plenty of other bugs and other this and that, and the coding is historically a bigger bottleneck than anything else since we have few coders, I think it's doable to get it out by 2.0.

They didn't work from the menu. Fixing it takes pasting the fixed event code to every single smashable rock and every single cutable tree in the game, and that requires finding them all again. It's half done now, but there could well be ore of these tedious bugs still lurking. And there's some feature (non-bug) stuff still to implement as well.
