Speaking from personal experience, absolutely.

My favorite is Fairy and I'm feminine as shit IRL.

A friend of mine who likes Ice the most was a total loner as a kid. He's always enjoyed simplicity, and likes Ice because of its cold theme and its color scheme.

Another friend who likes Dark went through an emo phase, hair flip and everything.

There might be some people who like a type because of competitive reasons (which reflects on someone in its own way), but the type you like for aesthetic reasons absolutely says something.

I've liked steel since gen 2.

Helps that Scizor is my favorite pokemon. I actually named my guild in FFTA after my two favorite types at the time, dark and steel, calling it Darksteel. I was super happy when Bisharp was released

My favorite is Fighting and a lot of my friends say I have a somewhat short fuse and punch really hard. I was also in remedial classes through most of middle and early high school since I was more prone to resolve things with a good fight than arguing with words and they put me in a class with a bunch of other punch happy kids.
