Red would have gotten shit on instead of Ash as the marketable anime MC. Instead of being able to mock Ash and say Red is superior people would instead say things like
"Anime Red isn't Red"
"He's like Red's retarded second cousin lol"
"Haha no my in-game character isn't Red, he's me, that's why he doesn't lose leagues!"
Nothing would really change, the face of the anime would just be slightly different.
