As a kid I thought it was the player. Like the "canon" player from GSC and as much sense as that doesn't make it was even more incredible to think that way.
Didn't take it in because I read it online as a kid with 56k dial up and it probably followed on from everything else.
It was like reading a novel, oh and then you can go to Kanto and then you can fight Blue then Red. I was too glued to the text and images to even react.
So mfw? probably this

I just beat HeartGold for the first time (when it came out I got as far as getting off the boat in Kanto and beating two gyms and then quit for like a decade).
I felt fucking sad after beating myself. I don't know why. Just empty.

I always feel bad after beating myself.
Sometimes low hanging fruit are the best.
For some reason I thought the game would read my GB and would use my team from Red. I was a dumb kid.

If I remember correctly, I probably knew about him, but I still shat myself because I wasn't really aware who he is, I lost first time to him (omg... I remember when I lost league in red... Being kid and playing pokemon is amazing)

As a kid, I thought that was Ash. I had already met and beaten a slightly different Misty, Brock and "Gary", so I was pretty much expecting a slightly different "Ash".
The moment they revealed Red in SM trailer was more exciting than this. The hype music, the randomness of it all and the hot new JotaRed made me squeal like retarded fangirl.

I was in like 4th grade and I bought the guidebook. I don't remember my face when playing Pokemon Gold.
I do however, remembering trying to catch Larvitar and Misdreavus for a long time
I was a non-english speaking kid and had no connection to the world of both games I played at the time (Yellow and Crystal), I pretty much played without understanding a single thing, when I saw him I didn't even give a shit who he was. Wasn't my team anyway.

I was smug, I had transferred my same team from red to yellow then gold before facing red.
I knew I was going to win
I remember being so excited to visit Kanto after the credits rolled , I couldn't believe there were 16 badges & didn't spoil it online despite having dialup
>first ever play crystal few days ago
>won the elite four with legendary dogs, arcanine and gyarados at lvl 50
>get ho-oh to complete team, get all the badges ez pz
>fight red, expect it to be ez win
>espeon kills my whole team
seriously i was glad there was a part of the game that needed actual farming beforehand. i still don't understand why the elite four aren't full lvl 100

>gets semi-legendaries to compete against the elite 4
>wahh this game is so easy Xd
I hope this is bait.

my gyarados and my arcanine were actually the only 2 i needed to win all 4 of the elite and they were stronger than the dogs. before this i played yellow, i leveled an alakazam to lvl 70 and won blue and the elite four by spamming psybeam and psychic.
Give me 1 good reason end-game bosses aren't max leveled

"WOAH ITS ASH WHAT THE HECK"

>HGSS has a totally different Mt. Silver
>More fitting as a final challenge, by far more climactic leading up to the Red battle

But pre-Gen IV Leagues could be solo-ed with a single mon because of wonky balance.
I destroyed the original leagues with Blastoise, Typlosion and Blaziken when I was a kid and gave all the EXP to the starter.
