Pokemon decides to make their own line of idol carddass machines that are basically bootleg Aikatsu games. To go with this they make a spinoff anime that airs after SM, replacing Snack World.

The spinoff is like a standard idol show, but set in the Pokémon world incorporating Pokémon into it. The series stars the Tripokalon girls, focussing mostly on Shauna, Millefeui and Blanche, though the others are all their. Amelia is the antagonist and Nene is the joke character who nobody takes seriously.

Nobody would deny Season 1 had the best humor. The show really lost something when Shudo stopped being the full director. You can tell even Orange Islands and early Johto feel nothing like the Kanto saga did, so even though he was still around the anime was being re-tooled.

The problem with that is Ho-oh just never ever became anything. Even Lugia got some episodes in Johto's Master Quest.

The closest we got to seeing Ho-oh in the series more than the "lepic flying away as Ash looks" was the teaser trailors for the Zoroark movie that had Lugia and Ho-oh facing off.

And it probably would've been way way better than the shoe-horned in shiny Raikou/Suicune/Entei.
