The original idea for shiny Pokemon in gen 2 came about due to the hex code of the color palettes changed when adding new Pokemon resulting in Pokemon at index 1 getting color swapped to the Pokemon in index 2.

Missingno is not a deleted Pokemon but is a simple error handler designed to prevent the game messing up but due to the buggy programming messing with missingno always players to alter some of the games code.

For some reason, Giovanni's Rhydon is replaced by another Rhyhorn in FireRed and LeafGreen.

Giovanni was the only Gym Leader to appear outside his Gym in Gen I.

In Gen II, the battle hall was supposed to be a place you could battle people you link your game with. They would have used the team they had last fought there with, and if you wanted to have an updated team to battle you'd just connect again.

This worked similarly to how connecting, visiting, and battling friends in their Secret Bases worked in Gen III. If you didn't connect to anyone, you fought HAL, with the final evolved forms of the Gen II starters. I still tend to do that to this day. I kind of like the version where the rival is just an evil mysterious antisocial asshole who we meet like ten times and who via battling with us, Lance, Team Rocket, and the gym leaders learns to love his Pokémon and learns what it is to be a trainer. In Japanese, the two child characters from the Victini movies are named after light and dark to match the light and dark theme of the movies. Aude or オード can be translated to aether or upper world, heaven, light, while Shade or セード means shade, shadows, dark. Their names are not exact opposites because they wanted to kanji to match, but the meanings are there.

Normally that's probably true but in this instance, unless you can provide the exact script from that part of the same translation you played, it's entirely possible that between the differences in the translations and your lack of English comprehension at the time compared to a native speaker that either: the translation you saw was somehow better worded in that scene than the official one, the grammer and vocabulary your brain primarily works in from your native language may have matched closely enough to coincidentally fill in the gaps despite it reading a bit strangely, or some other set of circumstances specific to your experience allowing for one of those situations where mistakes cancel out and you still arrive at the correct answer anyways where as most players didn't get the hint.
