Overall I really like the idea. It sells that these are "monsters" even though they do fill the role of animals in the Pokemon world (as far as we know).

Also, kind of goes with a lot Pokemon being based on Japanese yokai -- which by and large are usually based on everyday objects anyway.

The only ones that are utter shit are the Klink and Chimecho lines. Like, wtf were they thinking with the Klink design and its evolutions? They're pretty uninteresting overall.

And Chingling + Chimecho are just bland as hell. I really wish they gave them a cool gimmick to at least make them notable, but for now they're both really forgettable.

The big nose looks stupid. I can appreciate how when it rotates it looks as if the eyes and mouth are changing.

It would be a million times better without that nose. Whereas magnemites charm is in its simplicity. The screws and magnets form a nice star outline which from a design perspective is attractive and familiar to the eye. It's all drawn together by a simple eye. Just a small pupil to illustrate consciousness, yet the small scale suggests a more binary and robotic thought process.

I really do think Klink could be a lot better without that nose. If it wasn't teal, it'd probably be way better. Teal is just a color that the eye is drawn to. And given the simple approach to the rest of the Pokémon it just doesn't mesh. It also doesn't help that it's so fucking huge, it just makes it look worse.

I judge them on a case-by-case basis, like I do every Pokemon. It's not like I automatically like or dislike every cat Pokemon just based off the fact that they're a cat. That being said, a few objectmon are easily some of my top favorites of all time.

From the image OP posted, I really like the Honedge, Magnemite, Litwik, Sandygast, and Vanillite lines in particular. Don't dislike any of them though.

It doesn't have a face. It's just a gear with some markings paintedd on it and a dome-shaped middle part. There is not a single feature in the entire line that would suggest it's even alive. It doesn't even show any emotions in amie. Someone literally took a simple machine and called it a pokemon. Magnemite, Klefki etc. are at least visibly living beings.

I like most of those, I just hate the Vanillite line with a passion. Being based on an object isn't inherently bad, having a punchable face is bad, and I really want to punch Vanillish in the face.

Hate is a strong word and I don't particularly hate any design, I'm mostly impartial.

If anything you want me to hate something? Make the Pokemon unique but complete utter dogshit to use. Though at that point it is GF I'm hating on and not the actual Pokemon.

Palossand, Klinklang, Exeggutor and Klefki are all way up there in that sense, I like all their designs but holy shit is it impossible to use them in any meaningful way.

Klingklang is surprisingly expressive for an object mon in Amie, the way it's core rotates in conjunction with the main gear actually simulate a jaw.

Klingklang is probably one of the best designed Amie Pokémon.

They remind me of how poorly organized the franchise has been because GF doesn't really care for the tolerable excuse of it being a kids game.

I don't mind the ones I can understand, like Exeggcute, Voltorb and Sandygast. I don't really like the obtuse or heavily unnatural ones like Vanillite and Golurk. It's not even because they're bad designs, it's just I can't wrap my head around where they'd fit in. They also feel like a crutch for making ghosts.

If the former, basically "wherever they're found in the wild in their premier games". But even beyond that, it's not too hard to reason out how a snow-covered icicle would live, or where a possessed golem would come from.

If the latter, it's Pokemon, shit like that doesn't matter. There's over 800 of them, so the designed need to be varied and unique, and with the overwhelmingly vast minority of them being objectmons, I give GameFreak a lot of credit for doing that so well.
