Gen 3 is unplayable garbage.
Gen 4 was a slugfest and shit if you don't care about muh Battle Frontier, which I don't.
BW were okay, BW2 were great.
XY were pretty shit, still above Gen 4, and ORAS were pretty great.
SM has been pretty great.

Gen 5 is the pinnacle of what I want in a pokemon game.

Gen 7 and ORAS are great in their own aspects.

Toss up in between Gen 1 and 6, for being extremely plain.

Gen 4 will probably jump up once the remake comes out, if the current games are anything to go by.

Gen 2 is just shit.

Does just ranking Generations count as gen wars?

So why does /vp/ love Gen V so much even though it's considered to be the worst generation literally everywhere outside of this board (based on polls, reviews, sales, anything you want, the result is always the same). Is it just contrarianism for the sake of being contrarian or some sort of meme?

BW has a lot of flaws. Lack of older Pokemon is one of them, no matter who much some argue that it's actually a positive. The most bullshit story in Pokemon yet is another. Gen 5 was also THE only Generation to bring nothing new or interesting to the table that can change up the battles. That said, the gameplay itself was refined. That's its only positive.

BW2, however, fixes almost all of BW's problems. Older Pokemon are available, the story is far less bullshit, just more generic, and while it still doesn't change the battles, it adds a lot of content to just distract you from that. BW2 is good, and it carries Gen 5.

Some of it's contrarianism, but a lot of it has to do with /vp/ genuinely having different opinions overall compared to Pokemon's target audience.
/vp/ hugely overvalues postgame compared to the main game, and BW2 have arguably the best postgame content in the series. Also, older Pokemon tend to be more popular that newer ones, and since BW was all new Pokemon with no older ones until postgame many fans were turned off. /vp/ users tend to be more appreciative of newer Pokemon and actively dislike callbacks to Kanto in particular because of how often the series has revisited the region and its Pokemon (seriously, Gen V was the first generation where you couldn't visit Kanto in any of its games).

Fuck off. I've been a diehard fan of this series since its very inception and so has a huge amount of /vp/. I don't mean to speak for others, but we as /vp/ are largely a more niche audience than the mainstream masses and reviewers, more "hardcore" if you will, and as such we value different things as >>32447834 mentioned.
For example, having the main game include only new Pokemon was one of the greatest things GF ever did for the fans, truly a breath of fresh air. But not for the normie audience. Just look at what GF decided to do with XY and SM. Now it's inane genwun pandering all-around and GF will continue to double down thanks to you fags. Things DPPt had over XY: Difficulty. Post game facilities.
Things XY had over DPPt: 3D, Customization, Amie, Megas, Fairy-type, better region, better character design, better Pokemon and overall dex, better use of HM, better Evil Team, better fucking plot, faster gameplay, better online and the list goes on.

And I'm not one of the faggots who try to be "objective" when ranking. I was subjective as fuck. And I don't care about postgame facilitates, so being the subjective fuck I am, I didn't even give points to DPPt for that.
