It's literally fucking Regigigas. Slow, boring, uneventful start. Spoiler filled, total shit. And the games are disappointing. Gen 7 was a flop.

I'm not sure if it's the actual rock-bottom worst but I sort of agree with OP even if it's for different reasons. The story is better than it usually is but the game's just so fucking slow and tedious to get through. Other than that a pokemon game lives and dies based on A) what new ideas it brings to the formula and B) its roster of new pokemon. Both of these were very disappointing this time around.

Its additions to both official and non-official metagames were either pointless or harmful, it feels like new Pokemon are either OP or completely worthless with very little middle ground. Also the fact that it all but abandoned mega evolutions, which were an occasionally troublesome but on the whole promising idea that was pretty popular is disappointing. Z-moves are the only really new thing and they're honestly pretty boring in concept. It's also really annoying that most of the major beneficiaries of the mechanic were the annoying usual suspects like Landorus and Heatran, as opposed to megas usually giving a new lease of life to previously underrapreciated and underpowered pokemon.

Meanwhile the roster of pokemon isn't just small but on the whole very disappointing, there are some good designs but then there are a lot of really visually uninteresting pokemon crowding out the few actual decent designs. Stat distribution, movesets and typings across the entire dex are abysmal, it's probably the most underpowered gen overall since gen 2. Almost every non-legendary pokemon is totally outclassed by something that already exists. Ultra Beasts are at least something new but they're mostly either butt-ugly or broken, sometimes both. Tapus feel like an attempt to force the terrain mechanics that were introduced in XY but weren't really used that often down the playerbase's throats without any regard to balance. The boxart legendaries are probably the most forgettable ever, copypaste typings and abilities from other already existing pokemon.

Very poor gen overall.

Everytime we are so hyped for a new Gen/Game. We see the trailers, we get our hopes up, we think it is gonna be the best. Only to be even more disappointed then before after one week of playing.

I personally liked sun and moon a lot. I think they did a great job. X/Y however, had some serious issues that they really fucked up on imo. And ORAS were lacking a lot of features they should have had. Overall, both of the games were good to a point, but should have been better.
But if I had to pick one of your options I'd say it's possibly a tiny bit of them not doing as well as they used to, but mostly cuz we got old and cynical

Just look at the map, it's clearly not done entirely. Half of the houses are inaccessible, there's like at least one "building in construction per town". Suune/Moone lake are just a straight corridor with rocks conveniently blocking us to visit further, even though we can see that there's a more lot to it with some cheats. And, that's just a theory, but I'm pretty sure there was a dungeon planned for the Volcano, that's just too weird that the way down is longer than the way up. Also the golf course, litteraly the other room in your own house that were already modeled, and the list goes on

I think we've reached the point where it's fair to say that GF didn't handle the transition from sprites to 3D well at all. That would account for a lot of the unfinished assets as well as the game's incredibly poor performance - every 3DS game chugs as soon as there's more than two models on screen, meanwhile other games like Monster Hunter have much more detailed models and environments and never dip below 30 (60 in the case of 3U.) They're just not a 3D-oriented studio. I think it was a bad move to force them to go that route.

honestly it was evident from the beginning of gen 6. I've never been a fan of the models, and honestly a lot of them look like shit and make the pokemon look worse than they should, It also takes way more work to implement them, not to mention the entire game world when it's in 3d. The games probably would have turned out much better and more fleshed out had they stuck the course

This I agree with, but solely based on my personal opinions and my history with the Pokemon Franchise.

Sun and Moon are great Pokémon Games, it's just that Pokémon Games haven't evolved much after the RSE era. The gameplay feels incredibly slow, a little tap on your shoulders for completing the Pokédex isn't really that rewarding anymore and rather makes you feel like you wasted a lot of time. I loved Sun and Moon, but then I just got bored of Pokémon. I don't even browse /vp/ anymore, I'm just here in case of leak season. I wouldn't have thought I'd ever say it but I think I am too old for Pokémon.

Hopefully in 5 generations time I'll be hooked again.
