So I was wondering: what formats does Game Freak have in mind when it comes to balancing new Pokémon? Does it consider 6v6s and Showdown at all? Or just Battle Spot Singles and VGC?
Does it buff//nerf Pokémon solely based on the "official" formats?

It doesn't. The most it will do is nerf a Pokemon if there is enough outrage about it. See talonflame.

I'm also talking about newly introduced Pokémon, not just changes for old ones.

>Does it consider Showdown
Of course not you fucking retard.
>Does it consider 6v6s and Showdown at all?
Good one
It's hard to say what they have in mind with the brand new Pokemon, a lot of competitive focused abilities but a lot don't. But as far as buffs and nerfs go they definitely look at their own format's data, they made a lot of good changes in SM for both singles and doubles

Obviously they consider official formats like VGC. Orangurus's existence is a example.
And they might watch official tournaments to know what mon they should nerf next.

I dunno man, they had that "Gen I competitive spotlight" or whatever that just recommended Smogon's OU mons and sets.

That's not Gamefreak
They consider VGC, and then they slam their head into a keyboard

gf doesnt cater to unofficial formats or elitists lol
