Sun and Moon was a nice refresh but an underwhelming 20th Anniversary title. Also, Mina should have had a fucking trial.

X and Y wasn't perfect but it didn't really feel that much incomplete either, just more like some things needed better spit and polish but it was otherwise a standard Pokemon game in other areas.

I realize the series is for children, so my input is more like nitpicks than actual issues to raise but I figure if there's going to be world building in this series and kicking off the series 20+ years of keeping GameFreak from ending up with bankruptcy like every other B-list Japanese dev from the Famicom/MSX/Master System/PC-Engine era and beyond, the least it could have done was show it with more enthusiasm.

Incidentally, I hope to support whatever the fuck Ohmura and Kageyama intend to work on after their departure.

Well you know Typhlosion is my favorite Pokemon, and I just feel like Game Freak is neglecting it, you know? Yeah sure it got Burn Up in Sun and Moon, but that move is hardly useful at all on it, what it really needed were coverage moves, and it did not get a Mega evolution like I had hoped it would. I've been feeling a bit angry. I didn't like SM. They were shit. But seeing how well it is selling, how everyone is singing its praise, how every took the waifubait leads me to believe GF will make more games like SM, and that makes me angry and frustrated. I hate it all.
The worst part is, I can't do anything but bitch about it, and it makes me feel pathetic.

Actually, Black and White is when I got back into Pokemon. Gen IV wasn't bad, but the pacing of the game was slow compared to 3 and it had a lot of good production values mind you but it's clear why Gen VI introduced the new EXP Share and Gen V the diminishing EXP scale.

I feel like X and Y at least got some lapsed fans back into the game, but it also felt like they could have done more with Kalos and I can't quite put my finger on what. Maybe I just didn't like the Gym Leader music or Korrina's battle should have been more of a skill wall/casual filter like Whitney on Steroids and they left hanging threads like the locked door in the power plant area. Seems like the potential was lost due to crunch time I would think.

I do think Pokemon as a series should still be family friendly, but it shouldn't count out nods to older fans is what I'm getting at. I'm fine with GameFreak pushing players to battle online quicker and sooner but also wouldn't mind difficulty modes or the ability to skip that "How to Use A Pokeball" scene. It's understandable WHY they do it, but they shouldn't assume it's everyone's first game. Veteran players like having more choices for their team or new moves as the series progresses to rethink strategies and what have you.

9/10. Somethings are off, but doesn't discredit the analysis. Thanks for hearing me out, Aku.

The series grows and changes with time. This happens to all games. It feels like so many people hate the newer games just because it does things differently than the series used to, in things like Pokemon design styles, world design, plot writing, etc. I love watching a series change and evolve. Why do so many people hate it?
