The cool, neutral one
The macho one
The feminine one
This could have even started back in Gen 5 with Serperior (feminine) Emboar (Macho) Samurott (Cool). Though Serperior isn't that feminine, and Samurott could also fit into the macho category.
They've gone with this approach as technically, everyone should have a favorite as they're appealing to 3 unique different tastes.
Through this, we can guess the next starters will be -
Fire (cool) - makes sense, as the fire type hasn't had a sleak design in a while, and the cool category is generally the most "shilled". With Greninja last gen, and supposedly Decidueye this gen, it makes sense fire gets it next.
If it's following the chinese zodiac system, I guess Snake could fit well into this role.
Water (macho) - Again, it's been a while since water had a beefy designed starter. There are a lot of animals they could go with, but my top guesses would be an elephant or a crab.
Grass (feminine) - again, after having a macho and cool one for the past gens, a more graceful design could be a nice change. A deer is a popular choice, and would fit well, but if gamefreak can turn an emo cat into a heel wrestler, they could change all sorts of animals to fit this role.
What are your opinions on the new style of starters? Do you think the design ethic is good and offers a diverse range, or do you miss the more animal like appearance of the older starters?
What animals do you think the next starters will be based on?
Wow. I haven't heard anyone say macho since elementary school
>do you miss the more animal like appearance of the older starters?
I missed when they looked like monster-like kaijus. I missed the ambiguity of some starters like Cyndaquil, Bulbasaur, and Chikorita to name a few. Like at first glance you don't know what they are (even though giving some thought they're obviously based off of some weird animal.)
I like starters that aren't just oddly colored real-world animals. At least leave something to the imagination.
>If it's following the chinese zodiac system, I guess Snake could fit well into this role.
How would they make it bipedal tho?
>>32413489
Nu-Male/Bara/Waifu
Gamefreak knows their audience
>feminine
>87.5% male
>>32413547
It's a fucking stretch but, why not like this?
>>32413543
Very much this. Less anthro/bipedal, less red/blue/green irl animals. Seems the current trend of bipedal obvious animals started in gen 4.
>>32413489
Personally, I like what we've gotten in recent starters a lot more than the early generations but I don't want it to be all we get from now on. If they just keep swapping between styles or slowly go full circle back to the roots in future generationss, giving us lots of variety and leaving something for everyone, that's what would make me most happy.
>>32413561
>how would they make a snake bipedal?
>uhh add arms and legs to it :^)
Fucking genius.
>>32413588
Got any other ideas smartass?
>>32413584
This
>>32413584
Why is there a random cat there?
>>32413547
Maybe something like this (minus the edge)?
>>32413640
literally my mom's salazzle
>>32413489
They've been doing that shit since gen 2.
>>32413588
What about something like this? Like first it starts off as a traditional snake, like more of a salamander? Then this?
I honestly don't know how gf will pull this one off. I also wonder if it's going to be a fire/ poison type...
It's been going since gen 1
Cool: Charizard
Macho: Blastoise
Feminine: Venusaur
Cool: Typhlosion
Macho: Feraligatr
Feminine: Meganium
Cool: Swampert (before mega)
Macho: Blaziken
Feminine: Sceptile
Cool: Torterra
Macho: Infernape
Feminine: Empoleon.
>>32413656
>Feminine: Venusaur
Anon, Charizard was the feminine, macho and coolmon of Generation I.
>>32413656
Cool: Sceptile
Macho: Swampert
Feminine: Blaziken
fixed
>>32413656
Venusaur is in no way feminine.
Blaziken is more the cool one, while Swampert could be macho (especially with the mega), though its still iffy. Sceptile is in no way feminine.
Infernape is more the cool one. Torterra is just there. Empoleon is not feminine at all.
>>32413676
Venusaur is best mother.
>>32413676
Blaziken has so much (female) porn it's ridiculous. There's no way it isn't the feminine starter of gen 3.
>>32413676
>Empoleon is not feminine at all.
Tbqh I always tried to soft reset for a female Piplup when I was a kid.
>>32413655
So Salazzle?
>>32413700
I know it's supposed to be touching and all, but holy fuck this thing looks ugly. I can't believe someone wasted their time and skill drawing this atrocity. Why the fuck would you draw something so ugly?
>>32413739
Like I said, I don't know how gf will pull this off. Luckily they can work with boa constrictors that are non-venomous, but then we would probably have another fire/ fighting.
I think gf shot themselves in the foot by not having salazzle a future gen starter.
>>32413745
It's a cute little old lady
>>32413745
The artist was trying to convey that time has passed and that Venusaur has aged, I thought this was obvious Anon-kun?
>>32413489
Gen 1
>Charizard: cool
>Blastoise: cool
>Venusaur: cool
How can post-gen 1 even compete?
>>32413793
/thread
>>32413793
I agree with this.
>>32413793
Much better
>>32413793
Forgot to add Generation I, my bad.
They're not bound to having one style or characteristic though, for example I find Greninja to be both cool and feminine, same can be said for Decidueye to a lesser extent, and Incineroar can pass as both cool and macho.
I don't think GF really meant anything with this, it just happened coincidentally, not like they plan on doing this pattern, the only thing you can argue about though is the feminine part, with Primarina and Delphox being obviously made to be females (or traps).
>>32413750
Or maybe, just maybe, the zodiac theory is a load of shit and GF aren't bound by it?
>>32413813
To each their own. I think the zodiac theory is neat considering the coincidences.
>>32413489
I think a Fire/Poison rattlesnake would be the go-to.
I said it in the past but think about it. A fire rattle satisfies the object-oriented channeling of fire that Delphox and Incineroar have. Poison is the only other typing than Dark (Greninja) and Ghost (Decidueye) with blatantly grim connotations.
And they could make it a physical attacker to differentiate it functionally from Salazzle. Then again, Gourgeist and Trevenant were physical and Decidueye turned out physical too, along with Dhelmise.
>>32413793
not bad, still don't agree with empoleon and blaziken though, and samurott could easily be in the brutish category
>>32413837
I don't think it was their original intention but they just went with it as soon as Torchic was designed.
The only iffy one is Cyndaquil, but it's descriptive title even has mouse in it. It makes me laugh when people disregard Fennekin as a dog, yet say Zygarde 10% is based on Fenrir the wolf, when it's clearly a doberman.
Its definitely based on the zodiac, just with liberties taken.
>>32413862
I guess I want it to be real just so I can have a fire bipedal ox, essentially, a badass minotaur from hell. I need this to happen gf!
>>32413844
Blaziken is definitely an unintentional one for its group. Gamefreak clearly means for it be a cool one like Sceptile, but its body shape and feather "hair" caused it to be seen as female more easily than most starters.
Empoleon doesn't fit the category at all if you just think of it as "waifu", which is why I added "refined", what with it being a snobby noble. Which could apply to Serperior as well, maybe also Delphox in comparison to the other Kalos starters.
I think the next gen fire starter will be a rabbit for the next zodiac
Fire/Fairy Wolpertinger
Everyone talking about which fire type starter they want next gen based on the Chinese Zodiac.
And I am just sitting here wanting a fire scorpion as a bro.
>>32413558
YOUR MOM is 87.5% male.
>>32413987
>>32413640
Corrosion on this is retarded for the same reason it's wasted on Salazzle.
Also since when does a starter's HA change with evolution?
>>32414001
>since when does a starter's HA change with evolution?
Since Emboar.
>>32413489
>Samurott (Cool)
Samurott ruined a perfectly good Samurai design.
>>32414031
Not seeing it.
>>32413813
That is possible and plausible.
Yet, the point of discussion is "how are they going to pull it off IF the theory is real", so you're just being an ass now.
>>32413834
you forgot generation 1.

Thank you Anon-kun!

Feminine Chimpanzee(with a "sexy cave woman" aesthetic"
Edgy Snake
Macho Hippo

PFFAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH
>>32413717
How does that change the fact that it's not inherently feminine?
>>32413903
>but its body shape and feather "hair" caused it to be seen as female more easily than most starters.
Not really no.
>>32413672
i was gonna say, sceptile is most definitely the cool one of third gen. tho blaziken isnt too feminine
>>32413793
Hoenn confirmed for the manliest region

>>32413640
thats good, but way too similar to salazzle, give it a different HA instead of corrosion
>>32416515
I don't even know what to say to you...
>>32416594
>next water starter is a water/fighting pirate
Calling it now.
>>32413489
>What are your opinions on the new style of starters? Do you think the design ethic is good and offers a diverse range, or do you miss the more animal like appearance of the older starters?
I think the concepts are better than ever, but the actual designs are the worst they've ever been. A fire tiger that's also a heel wrestler sounds fucking amazing on paper, but in practice I look at Incineroar and I see a heel wrestler in a fire tiger fursuit. I feel similarly about most of the starters in your image, except maybe Greninja. The animal aspects of the designs feel like they're taking a back seat to the human-like aspects of the designs and I don't like it at all.
>>32416706
what animal would fit a water/fighting pirate? Sounds badass and I like the concept
>>32416594
>>32417567
a crab I guess, or an octopus considerating that they are pure muscle
>>32413489
I doubt we will ever get starters repeated, as in right now we have a penguin line of starters (Piplup & its evolutions) so I doubt the same type of species will be recycled for another starter type in the future
>>32413975
More Fire/Bug types would be neat
>>32413656
Cool: Charizard
Macho: Blastoise
Feminine: Venusaur
Is pretty accurate.
Cool: Typhlosion
Macho: Feraligatr
Feminine: Meganium
Spot on once more.
Cool: Swampert (before mega)
Macho: Blaziken
Feminine: Sceptile
Swampert is definitely the macho one, Sceptile the cool one and Blaziken the feminine one, but at times cool one too.
Cool: Torterra
Macho: Infernape
Feminine: Empoleon.
I don't think there is a single feminine starter here, and Empoleon is suppose to ape Poseidon, who is male.
>>32417567
A uca crab maybe? Those have a shorter arm that could work as a hook
>>32413975
They'll get to that when they run out of Eastern Zodiac symbols and move onto the Western Zodiac.
>>32413745
Ewww your mom looks so old, wrinkly and ugly, why do you still like her? Ditch that bitch.
Pumb
>>32418530
Agreed, even if they would likely pull a Decidueye and have it change to Fire/Steel or, please god no, Fire/Fighting.
>>32413837
>>32413813
The Zodiac Theory, as well as the "water animale + weapon" theme for water starters and the "evolutionary regression" for grass starter are all possible things. The fact is that probably GF never had that in mind since the biginning, they just did something with the first two generations, then saw a common theme and used it till now, with certain extent. They can change it when they want. But the fact that the concidences and the main theme seem to be correct is impossible to deny. The fire starters are so far, in different extent of course, eastern zodiac animals (at least at some point in their evolutionary line). The grass starters seem to have a common theme if some piece of nature that grows on their body as well as they revert more and more to a more ancient form of the animal they are based on. And the water starters are all based on animals that can both live on earth and into the water and they seem to have some kind of weapon based design when they reach their final form.
>>32420044
So, in my opinion, we should concentrate, when we try to predict, on what the ongoing themes seem to be based on. The fire starters also end up bipedal every single time. So:
Top 3 Grass Starter Possibilities:
A pony (that ends up similar to the gorilla horse)
A teddybear (that ends up similar to an ancient long arm bear)
A little elephant (that ends up similar to an ancient elephant or a mammuth)
+ some kind of vegetation, of course
Top 3 Fire Starter Possibilities:
A horse (i'd love it ending up to be a fire/dark black stallion)
A snake (fire/poison naga as a final evolution?)
A bunny (fire/fairy based on the lunar hare)
A bull (fire/fighting or fire/steel)
A goat (fire/ghost based on a baphomet)
>>32420044
Don't call it a theory when it's a hard fact, idiot.
>>32420061
(in the last post i meant
Top 5 Fire Starter Possibilities)
Top 3 Water Starter Possibilities:
A cormorant
A little bear (bears tend to live a lot in contact with water)
A water snake
>>32420062
It's a theory because no one confirmed it! I'm a strong believer of it anyway. And you are the idiot that stops reading when reaches a single word without knowing the meaning of it!
>>32420061
I'd say a sloth is a top contender for a grass starter. They're basically grass-types in real life anyway what with all the algae that grows on their fur, and megatherium is one of the most well known extinct mammals.
>>32420088
That's not a bad idea at all as well! I dig it a lot, to be honest!
>>32413793
For better wording, how about Beefy, Sleek, and Elegant?
>>32413656
And here you can see a dinosaur with a rafflesia plant on its back, it just oozes feminine charm doesn't it?
>>32413656
