How would react the fandom if the old Ken Sugimori's artstyle

More than half of it would be confused by this "new" artstyle. Would throw a bone to a irrelevant part of it because artstyle is never ever making older players comeback.

It's not a matter of "returning to the old Ken Sugimori style", this 90's style is not used ANYWHERE in japan nowadays, unless it's a remake of something and the like.
The artstyle can change again, yes, but it never would be like this again.

You need to consider not only has the series grown and changed but the new artstyle is likely a middle ground for more than just Sugimori to draw since working in 3D requires all the artist help you can get.

Yeah. Basically it's classic artstyle from RBY to RSE, then in FRLG they switched to a more polished version of the classic artstyle, and then in Platinum they switched to the current one and likely aren't changing it anytime soon.
