GF is doing it less than your average light novel anime. They have more blonde characters than this. Considering how often female characters get golden hair in Japanese media, like Samus, Peach, Rosalina, Zelda, Link, literally all girls in Mega Man, a lot of girls in DQ and FF, I'd say Pokemon is being pretty reserved.
