Then again in XY there was a snail skateboard thingy and that was'nt a Pokémon either, so it might be a case of animals still existing in the anime, or of mascots in the anime!Pokéworld often being madeup Pokémon, or Pokémon that we have yet to see.

Non-Pokemon animals have existed in the anime since the original series. And it's not a bad thing imo. I find it pretty cool.
