To Pokémon, I'll admit I was a bit late to the party.
I have since played every Gen with the exception of II, and Sinnoh is still my favorite region among them. While the game has its faults (why is Defog even a thing), the landscape, routes, and characters are very interesting and memorable. Gen 6 is my favorite Gen though, because of the meticulous detail put into it. There isn't a bench in that game that I've not sat in.
