There are some exceptionally stupid pokémon out there.
Rhyhorn would be one example; "A Pokémon with a one-track mind. Once it charges, it won't stop running until it falls asleep. "-Yellow Pokédex entry.
Then, there are pokémon which are far more intelligent than humans could ever be, or ones which can see the future, and are thus able to make far better judgements than their trainers.
Yet, they all obey the commands of their trainers instantly.
Why is this the case?
Please no "It's a game and it would be less fun otherwise.", I know. This is supposed to be a lore discussion.

Poke Balls brainwash them

>tfw to intelligent to stop running
Sinnoh said something about that Pokémon are just naturally subservient to humans, or something.
The lore behind pokeballs is inconsistent. It says one thing in one game and another in another.

Two reasons. No matter how stupid, they're still able to understand commands. No matter how intelligent, they trust that their Trainer probably has more knowledge. Remember, smart != knowledgeable.
And the better, second reason. Pokedex is full of bullshit. It seems like they only cared about it in SM.

You made some good points there.
I guess it has to be assumed that freshly hatched baby pokémon instantly have this instinct to follow human commands also, hence why they are able to fight.
And yes, Pokedex is full of bullshit and hyperbole. While looking up dex entries for Rhyhorn, I noticed how they claimed that its Tackle can collapse skyscrapers, and other such silly things.
>>32376387
The pokedex was written by a literal 11-year-old (14 where applicable)
>>32376349
Why do captured slaves obey commands?
>>32376429
Baby pokemon think you're their mommy and that's why they have such a high friendship upon hatching
>>32376430
The pokedex isn't written by its trainer, it automatically collects data on Pokemon.
>>32376437
Because they are human beings with human intelligence, and fear punishment for disobedience.
Even then, there are cases in which slaves did not obey. They were just killed. But are you really comparing human slaves to a pile of goo with eyes in it?

>Pokedex is full of bullshit. It seems like they only cared about it in SM.
I don't think so, we need to separate the lore to the gameplay needs.
>>32376445how cute :3
Why is Rhyhorn so much cooler than its evolutions?
>>32377130
It's an actual rhinoceros and not a horned kaiju?
>>32376349
Pokeballs force them.

Looks more like a mixture of a Rhino and a Triceratops to me, look at that large neck shield and the round body.
