I used to legitimately have a crush on May, and I self-inserted as Brendan anytime I played the RSE games. I was a bit older than 10 at the time, but still, close enough.

Until I was about 13 all of my Pokemon teams had to consist of an equal number of male and female Pokemon then when emerald came around each mon had a designated partner for double battles

I used to only train one pokemon until late into gen 3. It was always the starter too.

My mechanic wasn't something super well thought it was basically combining 2 compatible attacks to create a stronger move they didn't have names or anything and it didn't matter if they were the same type or not. The base power would be the sum of the 2 attacks. I remember combining Fearow's Aerial ace and Drill peck making a huge wind drill.

It's not as embarrassing as it is autistic, but here goes. I usually choose cutemons for my playthrough, and I associate the cuteness with the females, so I usually ended up with a full female team, unless I caught a cool-looking Pokémon, then it'd be male, but it would only be one or two male Pokémon. I still do it today though.
Who doesn't fucking want a wandering harem?
