Platinum was great. And so were Diamond and Pearl. Platinum is just a minor improvement that doesn't deserve all of the recognition it gets.

Gen 2 and it's remake are the worst games in the series and most of the Pokemon in that generation left no impact.

I honestly think Kalos is the worst region in the series, bar none.
The first few areas are pretty nice and unified, with all the chateaus and rolling hills and that kind of thing, but then after the 4th gym it all goes to shit and they started cramming as much as they could into the region no matter how little sense it made. Why is there a perfectly circular desert in the middle of some grassy plains? Why is there an industrial facility right next to the comfy fairy tail hamlet? Why is there a huge strip of snow cutting through the landscape for no discernible reason?

XY is pretty weak to play casually, but it's one of the best games to Nuzlocke.

Sun and Moon were really good (perhaps unpopular on /vp/).

The Kanto starters are ugly as fuck and I always box/Wonder Trade them any time I get any of them.

I like exploring through all of Sinnoh. Even Route 216 and Route 217.

FRLG has some of the worst music in any Pokemon game.

I like seeing stories and well-written characters in Pokemon, but I don't want for it to be like SM where it derails the pace of the game.

I always play the games a few months after they're released so I don't get caught up in hype, and SM wasn't half as fun as XY to me. Sure SM looks good and there's plenty of nice features, but the main adventure is terrible. You're just pushed from town to trial with no time to explore and it makes SM hard to replay. XY was flawed but it gives you enough space to enjoy yourself without an NPC hijacking your adventure.

I think that this franchise manages one of the best artstyle of the whole industry. Pokémon or Humans, are all designed with a lot of effort and originality.

Gen 6 is the best generation so far.
Gen 4 is the worst.
Gen 5 was the most stagnant and failed to innovate, though it was good. One gets the sense its development time was mostly spent unfucking the mistake that was gen 4.
Gen 2 on the other hand innovated a lot but is not good and is extremely unfun to play because the new Pokemon and new region are bad and samey and poorly laid out.
Gen 3 is the most significant to the evolution of the franchise and also contains the best region.
Gen 1 is afforded such a high opinion pretty much solely because of nostalgia, but it was a pretty incredible start for the franchise and such nostalgia is excusable. Also speed-based crit was good and should come back.
Gen 7 is good and might wind up being better than 6 by the time it's done.

All pokemon should be achievable in a single game. I don't want to be forced to play gen 6 to get one of the 500 unobtainable pokemon

The fact that you can add people to your friend list alone makes ORAS already better than any other main Pokémon game we've seen so far. SM was a step back and people just praise it because muh epic graphics le chibi models were le ugly :(
Speaking of which, gen6 using chibi models and having 2D artwork at the start of the battles was great.

They were both pretty lackluster, but I thought Aether/Lusamine and Ultraspace were a lot more interesting than Flare/Lysandre and the life/death duo.

Ultraspace opens up whole new possibilities, and having a villain be manipulated by a Pokemon was an interesting change of pace.
Lysandre was such a generic non-descript villain, and the backstory didn't really open up anything for Pokemon. There were ancient wars using Pokemon. Okay. Black and White already came up with that.

The rise and fall of Team Rocket was illustrated pretty well. And the burned building diaries were a fun way to introduce Mewtwo. Better than Gold and Silver where the only real story is beating a few Team Rocket remnants who had no long term plan. The rest is all just conjecture and Pokedex lore.

But I like more of the X and Y pokemon and the pokemon in kalos are some of my favorites. I like taking pictures at all the photo stops. I like the option to sit fucking ANYWHERE.
I actually had a lot of fun on the roller blades and grinding rails. I liked Delphox more than Inceneroar.
Honestly they both feel a bit half finished and I can't put my finger on why, but I honestly feel like I enjoyed X more than Sun. (Team Skull is miles better than Flare though)

If I was gonna fix Pokemon Ride, I'd add in a feature to turn certain pokemon into ride pokemon.

Say you have an Arcanine. You could go to a place to register it as a ride pokemon and ride on it whenever it's in your party. Just a small cosmetic change to make it more personal.

Maybe even have it keep track of male/female features or if it's a shiny or not. I don't know how hard that would be to implement but it doesn't seem like it'd be too hard.

Maybe even have hidden places based on pokemon size so that say...an Azumarril could go into a tunnel a lapris couldn't fit in and find a cool TM or something.

SunMoon and it's region were dull, and wasn't very interesting since the game that came previously from it (ORAS) had featured a tropical region.

XY was great and Kalos was a beautiful region with great pokemon designs, despite what the majority of /vp says.

I hate all of the final Gen 7 Evolutions.
They were all great in their base forms, but it was really disappointing with the direction that they were headed.
Especially Popplio. You would think it would have a massive gender difference considering the animal it was based on.

In my opinion a great level curve is one that allows you to keep a team of 4-5 Pokemon within a few levels of the leader (above or below) when you reach them without having to do extra grinding. RSE gives you a boatload of optional trainers to help you do that without dropping the ball on the levels. There's a clear progression of levels as you move through the game.

Actually, because of how gen 5 is made I don't believe it has as much as gen 3. Audino grinding is grinding wild Pokemon which I don't take into account. In addition, you shouldn't need to grind wild Pokemon to begin with in a game with a well-balanced level curve (and this is true in gen 5).

Furthermore a lot of those trainers you mentioned who are around level 30 (and this is true, they're around 25-35) are optional. Many of them are available when you get Surf which is why they do that. However, because of this your team is able to stay at around the level of the gym leaders which is why I like it and say it's a good level curve. The trainers outside of that tend to stay above that level 30 range since they're more on the storypath.

That's my reasoning at least.
